I am always interested in historical books, especially religious oriented books. Many people don't realize that the New Testament was a compilation of letters and books written during and up to 150 years after the time of Christ. The Pauline letters were written by the Apostle Paul during his ministry after his miraculous conversion shortly after the crucifixion of Christ. Not every letter, writing, or supposed document by an apostle, or contemporary follower of Christ, was accepted as scripture. In fact, it wasn't until the late 4th century that most Churches accepted all the canonized 27 books of the New Testament as scripture. The Apocrypha, though originally part of the Catholic Bible (and still is today), was later removed from the Bible by the Protestant Christian faiths. The Apocrypha is an intriguing set of writings that remind the Christian believer that although the Bible is a selection of scripture given by God, it is not the only word regarding the life and ministry of Jesus Christ and his apostles and missionaries; it is simply what religious scholars over the ages have agreed to be Gospel.Nestle's Greek New Testament, considered by most scholars to be the foundation upon which all other New Testament translations derived, lists 132 New Testament passages that allude to books that are not part of the modern day New Testament. All modern versions of the New Testament have references to books that are missing from the New Testament such as Thias, Epimenides, the Book of Enoch, The Life of Adam and Eve, the Assumption of Moses and the Martyrdom of Isaiah, to name a few.It is interesting how most Christians will claim that the Bible is infallible, perfect and complete.
