Ebooks Online

This charming rhyming book is a great introduction to the sights and culture of Paris. The book begins by inviting the reader to come along on the journey and ends with a good night wish: “Paris is a beautiful city in France; Please come visit, should you have the chance. The French call it Paree, and there is so much to see; Come with me and you’ll agree, it’s a great place to be!” At the end of our trip, au revoir and bonne nuit! Je t’aime my dear one, and je t’aime to Paree!” Colorful and whimsical illustrations feature well-known landmarks such as: The Eiffel Tower, The Palais Garnier, The Louvre, Sacré-Coeur, Sainte-Chapelle, Notre Dame, the Luxembourg Gardens, the Arc de Triomphe, and more.

I really think the colors and design of this book, and series is really quite perfect and oh so fun.The map on the inside cover is perfect. Just like any travel/tourist book a map is necessary, and I love the maps on the front and back inside cover. I love seeing the Eiffel tower and the Seine River among all the other famous landmarks.Fowler does a great job including all of the major sites, and she even includes some French terms, which is translated in the glossary found in the back. Just like in the NYC book, there is a brief explanation about each famous site as well as the pronunciation is present.Min Heo really did a great job with the illustrations, and Fowler did a good job with rhyming even difficult text.In my opinion I feel this book would be best suited for an elementary school aged child especially a child interested in France and/or Paris. A parent taking his or her child to Paris would benefit in getting them this book. However, I also think a librarian or a teacher could use this book as a lesson or unit starting off point. The students would have to create a page in the book of a city, state, or country. Each pages includes a famous landmark or site, and the text has to rhyme. Teachers could form the kids in small groups to completed a whole book (aka whole city/state), or the younger grades (like 2nd/3rd) could have the students do just one page in the class book. .As far as the storyline goes, and the reason for the lost point/star, I think the Paris book is not as random as New York, but there isn't really a storyline. The story is presented in a way that you do each and every famous landmark in one day, which would be impossible, but I am fine with that.
