Short enough to read aloud; clear writing and leads to follow-up hands-on lessons. Only reason not a "5" star, is that the illustrations are a little busy and scattered, but children like that when reading through the book on their own.
This is a great story for teaching prefixes and its sister book, Suffix, is also great. The illustrations are fantastic and help to "picture" the meaning of the words.
I used If You Were a Prefix with my second grade reading intervention groups. The book helped the kids understand what a prefix is. They really enjoyed the game at the back of the book which also works well as a memory game.I would recommend it to other teachers who teaching prefixes.Polly Bevil
My second graders enjoyed the story and have referenced the book several times when looking for prefixes. The illustrations are fun and very detailed.
The book has a lot of repitition. The stidr nuts had a good idea of what a prefix is after reading the book. Great picture's too!
