"Plaid" Phonics: Grade 3 “The variety of activities and colorful presentation make these workbooks appealing to children, and large print reduces the intimidation factor.” - Cathy Duffy, author of Top 100 Picks for Homeschooling Curriculum 55 MILLION READERS Teaching your child to read requires him or her to learn to connect sounds and symbols. Phonics, a method of teaching reading, uses those two entities to help your child become a fluent reader. Originally known as Modern Curriculum Press (MCP) "Plaid" Phonics and now published by Pearson, the “Plaid” Phonics K-6 program will help you teach your child the building blocks of language and literacy. “Plaid” Phonics has a 50-year history of success. In fact, it has helped more than 55 million children learn to read. You and your child can be a part of that legacy. GRADE 3 MILESTONES “Plaid” Phonices Grade 3 is meant for children at the beginners' level of reading. Using “Plaid” Phonics, you can help your child learn the foundation of reading. This book is currently used in my child's school. It is an excellent book with well thought out activities and lesson plans. My daughter enjoys doing the assignments and is able to complete many on her own. It encourages logical thinking and presents material in multiple ways to aid those who learn both visually and by repetition or auditory pathways. My only concern is that it is rater as a first grade text and I feel it is really more of a middle/late kindergarten level book. I used the text for several weeks and then ordered the next level.

I home school my son and this book is so comprehensive. He's learning to read and write with just this one workbook, albeit not at the pace the workbook lines out. For example, there are sentences the workbook presents that he is supposed to read. He cannot always read them, but we proceed to the next lessons and in time he does read. I like that the illustrations are photographs. They are realistic and not cutesy, which my son would not go for. This workbook is for those who can already recognize capital and lowercase letters. Fyi, my son was 6 when he started this workbook.

introduces phonics concepts in a clear and sound manner; good amount of repetition to reinforce learning but not so much that it becomes boring or students lose interest;Lays an excellent foundation and progresses in a way that helps students with reading and writing. It is a thick workbook that provides a variety of phonics concepts.Full color photographs are timeless and help students make associations easily. There are many photos as well as illustrations to support the lessons.

I love this book. It is well organized and easy to use. I was using a different phonics book with my first grader. She hated it and it was a struggle to get her to do the lessons. After we had an accident with that one and it was ruined, I looked for a replacement that she might enjoy more. This one is it. The lessons are engaging and fun for her. She loves it and actually asks me if she work on her phonics book.

My son is a fourth grader and has struggled with reading since second grade. We had done tutoring twice a week, and it still didn't get any easier for him. Then his fourth grade teacher, after listening to him read a couple of times, figured out that he had very little phonics skills! She suggested Plaid Phonics and after 3 weeks, working in the workbook every night, I have seen a huge improvement! Parents this book will be your new best friend, and a great helper to your child's future

I'm really pleased with the book. I'll get the next in the series soon as well. I used MCP 25 years ago when I was home-schooling, and will use it now as a first-grade public school teacher. Combined with Reading A-Z, I think this will suit my class very well for phonics/reading instruction.

I purchased this for my kindergartener about six months ago. This is first grade level, but I needed something a little more challenging. We are almost done and this program has been great. It combines phonics, spelling, reading, and writing. Although mostly phonics. Hidden throughout are little readers which I really like. Everything is connected from the little readers to the writing parts. It incorporates puzzles, fill in the blank, missing letter/sounds, writing, readers, and it's very colorful which makes it more fun to do.

A gentle phonics program that really works! My son loved this, but I foolishly decided to try one of those shiny, new programs with my daughter. We lasted about a week before I quickly ordered this book. Now she loves to do phonics!
