Max Lucado is the master of inspirational writing. I love the tricky title "It's Not About Me". After all these years - most of us thought it was!The editorial reviews are so well done, I can do little to improve them. This is a small engrossing book that explores why we are here on earth in the first place - it is to reflect the glory of God. For anyone who has never read a Max Lucado book, and there are several, I recommend this one first. I have read two others and plan to read them all. They are not "preachy" nor difficult to understand. They are written by a humble Christian pastor who never fails to give credit to his wife and children for their support and encouragement. This book touches a chord in all of us as we often forget our Creator and how much He loves us. Once you are rescued from a life of self-promotion, self-preservation and self-centeredness, and realize you are here to reflect God's glory, your life becomes changed. This book makes a wonderful gift and it deserves a place in your library where you can reread it often.
I bought this book while out of town on a business trip and began reading it over dinner. By the time I went to bed that night in the hotel room, I had finished the entire thing. I usually am not a fast reader, but Lucado writes so poetically and conversationally that you can't help but keep turning the pages. I've read many books on this topic, some more "scholarly" than this one. But "It's Not About Me" hangs with the best of them. Don't let the big print or the easily read conversational tone fool you. This is a serious book about a weighty matter, and Lucado has done a wonderful job of covering the topic biblically.I would like to also comment one of the other reviewer's statements. The reviewer named Peniel G.G.G. has made a mockery of this entire system by using the review space to promote his own heretical work. Read his other reviews, and you will see they all say the same thing... "Jesus told me he likes this book. Now go buy my book too." I can guarantee you Jesus doesn't like some of the books he's positively reviewed. I don't know what voice this man is hearing, but if you really want to hear Jesus' voice, read the Bible!!!
I cannot think of another book which is more needed today in this world of self-centered materialism and instant gratification, which everyone of us is susceptible. There is no one like Max Lacado to get to the heart of a spiritual/psychological/emotional issue. Not only does Rev Lacado have a way with words, he expresses our innermost feelings and is able to help us put our finger on those nebulous feelings we could not quite pin down, much less admit to. He points out that we all struggle with insecurity and the self-life, but that there is a solution in The One who gave His All for us. I have personally experienced that "There is power in the name of Jesus". This is a book that can be reread every now and then, as we all need to get our perspective and our priorities back in order from time to time.
This is a fabulous book. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone. It's short, to the point, and humbling. The statements and principles are so straight forward and true, yet we constantly miss them.If you are reading this review then buy the book and read it you will not be disappointed.
I can not say that I am not addicted to Mr. Lucado's books because I am very addicted. The reason is simple- he always has a angle that we aren't leaning toward although we should eb doing so. In this book, it all about glorifying God and realizing that He want s us to live a happy stress-free life. But we must be content. It is only then, can He shine through us and multiply His Kingdom. Just this week, I was invited to go shopping with a friend and realized that she was so miserable because she was focusing on the rainy weather, the $500 suit she yearned for, and the mortgage payment. I handed her my book from my "mission" box in the back of my car. She called me tonight and said that Mr. Lucado "rocks!" She sounded much happier! Thanks, Mr. Lucado for helping The Lord to keep us on track and "rockin for Christ!"
Max Lucado is well-known for his ability to write devotional material that is extremely powerful, yet is easy to read and simple to comprehend. It's Not About Me is sure to be a Lucado classic and is a must read for every Christian who faces emotional wounds, frustration, discouragment, or even minor set backs. The reader will move quickly through the chapters and can easily gain perspective on their relationship to God and the spiritual struggles taking place in the heavenlies. This book will be useful for both experienced Christians and new Christians as it directs the reader toward Scripture and doesn't attempt to replace or redirect any emphasis on the Holy Bible.
It's Not About Me was a good read in that it was quick, short chapters, and some really good material. Although I'm not a big fan of Max Lucado, this book reminded me that my life isn't about me and my selfish objectives. My life is about God and how he plans to use me for his glory. I think it's a great book for someone who might be on a new walk with Christ and needs some guidance on what that's all about.
