"Elijah" is a decently written book that covers the life of Elijah. The main purpose of the book seems to be bringing present life-lessons from the prophe's life. This book is not a history book, instead it reviews what Elijah experienced, considers how he responded to those experiences, and then relates these responses to present struggles that the modern reader might have. The book is good for what it is meant to be.
Elijah is an excellent introduction to the life of Elijah the Prophet, a man who stood up to Ahab and Jezebel, defeated Baal priests, was fed by ravens, and saw mighty miracles by God. Yet he, like the rest of us males, was just a man who was vulnerable to the struggles and issues we face today.The book is around 180 pages and consists of 12 chapters that deal with various aspects of Elijah's life, whether he was standing up to the idolatry prevalent in his day or his need for deep spiritual and physical rest.Elijah is one of the titles in the Men of Character series and is an excellent introduction to the prophet's life. Admittingly the writing is tailored more for the layperson or the Christian leader who wants a spiritual growth read as opposed to a deep theological study.Highly recommended! Read and enjoy.
I have read about Elijah on several different occasions but the author does an awesome job bringing his character to light. Elijah was a man that dealt with ups and downs and highs and Lows but through it all he never took his eye off of God. I also used the bible to follow along with the author text and it was right on the money. I recommend this book and the author for anyone that is interested in taking a more in depth look at Elijah. This book was a true eye-opener.
Gene Getz has written several books about "the Men of the Bible". Our church's men's Bible Study Group has read, studied, and discussed many of them. This one is an easy read and thought provoking about Elijah, a man like us.
Mr. Getz is an excellent teacher of God's Word. This is the first book I've ever read written by Mr. Getz; I have samples of his "Men of Character" on hold in my Kindle, waiting to .purchase once I finish re-reading Elijah for the second time. Excellect book.
