I own many of Robert Crumb's books (as well as those of his wife and his daughter, as I'm a HUGE fan) - but I must reluctantly say that this book is a disappointment. The highlight is actually Marty Pahls's introduction; it's very interesting and informative. Crumb's later work is masterful, but this book showcases "the early years".
If you're a casual R. Crumb fan this probably isn't the volume for you. You're probably better off checking out volumes 5, 6 and 7This volume provides fascinating insights into the origins and developments of style regarding the most important cartoonist in history.Ideal for die-hard Crumb fans and art students
R. Crumb is absolutely hilarious - you need to read some of his work several times to get all the innuendos and hidden humor - a delightful time. As is often noted, his work is sometimes a bit risque - he is not delicate - tells it like it is sometimes.
