Collects a dozen comic short stories by the acclaimed cartoonist behind Fante Bukowski and The Hypo. Noah Van Sciver is a keen observer of the human condition, exploring the decisions people make that make, break, and define them. Disquiet showcases the best of his short comics work, including: “The Death Of Elijah Lovejoy,” the story of the midwestern abolitionist in the 1830s;“The Lizard Who Laughed,” a painfully dysfunctional reunion; and “Punks V. Lizards,” an anarchic and darkly comic piece of absurdity that blends Quadrophenia with Jurassic Park. Full-color illustrations throughout.

This delicious blend of recent and all-new work from one of the hardest-working and most dedicated American cartoonists I've ever met is a terrific, multi-tier read. The curating of this anthology is spot-on, with 'breaks' afforded by Noah's compelling self-portraits (delineating the 'space inside' in the profile image of the cover, each revealing different aspects—some spiritual, some septic—in the artist's ever-self-effacing manner). Personal favorites from Van Sciver's BLAMMO! (like "The Laughing Lizard" and "Punks vs. Lizards") are here, along with historical gems like the brutal "The Death of Elijah Lovejoy" and fatalistic fusions of despair & fantasy like "Down in a Hole." If you want to know how brave Van Sciver is as a cartoonist, ask yourself: would YOU have an ex write the intro to YOUR book? Most highly recommended, and a perfect 'stepping in' anthology if you're new to Noah's work.
