The man said he was a doctor . . . but he did something to little baby Fanny’s eyes that made her blind for the rest of her life. How could she find out about the world around her? How could she be happy? How could she learn? How could she love God? How could she forgive? Fanny Crosby was blind for more than ninety years . . . and she wrote over 8,000 hymns and gospel songs about her Savior. Delightful Christian biography of the blind, gospel hymn writer, Fanny Crosby. Well-written, with large print and illustrations make this book very suitable for the younger reader, as well as the older reader who can read it through in one sitting. Good wholesome reading for the entire family with tender, poignant sections that will speak to the heart of both reader and hearer.

A well written book about Fanny Crosby. I had never heard of her before. Now, I check all hymns to see if she wrote it. It is well worth the read. It is great to read out loud to children or to anyone who loves to learn about people who have made a difference. Her lyrics are so heart-felt. I am sad that she had to live her life in the dark having been blind due to a "medicine man" who did not even care that she screamed when he applied his mustard. If she had been my child I would have cleaned those eyes immediately--but now days we know that doctors don't know it all. That part about her life really bothered me--but, God allows strange things in this world to accomplish his will. It just bothers me to think of baby Fanny suffering at the hands of a fool.

i loved this book! oh how i loved this book. i read it to my daughter and i wept while reading some of the chapters. God is loving and trusthworthy even amidst the hardships of life, and Fanny had many such difficulties, but she praised God through it all. Wonderful, wonderful book for adults and kids alike to be reminded that God can do great things through a life yielded to His will. When we are finished with the current school year and i sell curriculum, i'm keeping this book :) Can't wait to read more from this author! Thanks for a great contribution to children's literature!

I read this to my granddaughter who is in second grade. We had a great time together hearing about how God used blindness in Fanny Crosby's life to bring glory to Himself and joy and usefulness for eternal purposes for Fanny. Not so detailed that it dragged, but enough to make it a learning experience for me, too.

I actually chose this rating of 5 stars, because it deserves this and even more than that. This rating needs to go even higher, I think! I do definitely would recommend this book to anyone who would appreciate not just another story, but the person behind the words of the story that's being portrayed. One thing that I love about this autobiography is that I can relate to some degree with Fannie, and this is because I am also totally blind like she was. My story is a little different, but we both became Christians in due time. There was no thing in this book that I did not like. I deeply enjoyed listening to this book the way that I chose to do so. I love this inspiring true story, where Jesus is not left out in any way in her life. Love it!!!

We are homeschoolers who use Tapestry of Grace and this was one of the choices to read in year 4. We read it together and my nine year old loved it!Fanny Crosby led an interesting and full life. She makes a great role model for us all by not playing the victim and overcoming what others might consider a handicap. I enjoyed that Ms. Davis showed Fanny's struggle with her faith and grappling with that to make it her own.If you follow any kind of Charlotte Mason plans or Charlotte Mason"isn" plan... This would be considered a living book.

I absolutely loved this book. I used it as a read aloud for my daughter in our homeschool. There were a couple of times when it touched me so much I couldn't help but cry. She was such an amazing woman of God.

I was looking for an easy reader on the life of Fanny Crosby and this book was exactly what I wanted! It's well written, easy to read and very interesting and informative for young readers.
