I wish I could give this book more then 5 stars!!! I am a christian but also practice Hinduism. It's nice to finally have a book that ties both together instead of pushing them apart. This books focuses on what both believe in but also how they are the same thing! This book is really great at breaking down beliefs and having scriptures from both sides that show the belief system is the same. I do wish however this book was a little longer but only because I enjoyed it so much. It was very easy to follow along with and able to finish in a day maybe 2. The only down side is that because the book is small the text at times can be hard to read, because it's smaller.I did pay full retail price for this product.
The author wants to build bridges between Hinduism and Christianity by looking at similarities between Sri Ramakrishna and Jesus Christ from the Vedanta point of view. Both religions are Asiatic, believe in the Incarnation of God in human form and believe in God's grace. Chapter 5 is Swami Vivekananda's lecture Christ the Messenger given in Los Angeles in 1900.One may ask how this book compares to Swami Paramananda's Christ and Oriental Ideals. Swami Paramananda looks at the ideals rather than the personality (hardly mentions Sri Ramakrishna). He frequently uses the pronoun "we" that involves the reader in the discussion. Swami Satprakashananda highlights the comparison between Jesus Christ and Sri Ramakrishna in terms of their life and their teachings and covers more theological points and has more quotations from the Bible. If you want a personal talk about ideals and tradition go with Swami Paramananda, if you want a lot of information with quotes and technical terms go with Swami Satprakashananda.
