We are using this book as the text for a class for 5th and 6th grade girls at church. They really love it and are absorbing the spiritual truths from it more completely than we ever would have expected. It is designed as an advice columnist. "Letters from readers" are presented and the portions of James that apply to the Biblical truths related to the questions and issues presented are studied. Then, the class "writes" a response incorporating those truths. The book looks fun and includes some crossword puzzles, opportunities to draw, etc and the kids love it, but it is also a quality Bible study that keeps the students interest and includes scripture memorization and application in situations the targeted age group can relate to. I fully recommend this book, or any of Kay Arthur's materials to anyone who wants a substantive but doable Bible study.
Really nice solution for our ongoing problem of finding a quality Bible curriculum. We've used other programs in the past, but always stop using them quickly. This is easy to implement and we don't have to spend an hour on every lesson. I think this book is best for ages 9-14.
This is my favorite Bible study book for my children to use for homeschooling and to use for when we have a group study with other children. It's so easy to follow and does not imply it's own opinion on what the Bible says but allows the children to openly express what they think! I can't say enough good! It's so easy to follow and great for any age. Highly recommend if your looking for something simple to incorporate in your families life or in a group with children. Our family loves it and we'll be getting more of this series!
I'm using this as part of our homeschool curriculum for my 3rd and 5th grader. It is very thorough, and has a lot of activities that makes them think about the scripture being studied. At times, my younger one needs help, but it is not over his head. This is their favorite part of the school day.
This book is fantastic! We are using it in our home school as part of our bible study in the My Father's World curriculum. I was definitely looking for things to help with character development this school year, and this book, along with memorizing parts of the book of James have been a good tool for that. It is a little challenging for my 2nd grader, in spite of him being an excellent reader, so we often sit and work through parts of it together. My 5th grader LOVES it and has really taken well to completing the sections without assistance. I would love to try more books from this series.
I really liked this book, although one thing that I didn't like was that some of the days were four or so pages long, and some were one or two pages. I don't always want to do or have time to do four pages. But all in all, it was really cool and fun to learn about. They also taught good life lessons like telling the truth, and always treating everyone the same! 5 stars!!!
I ordered this book for my Sunday school class and it seems to be going over well. In discussion we tend to rabbit trail into other topics of intrest where a new lesson needs to be taught. So, in conclusion, the book is a wonderful teaching tool.
My 8 year old son and I love to do this Bible study together. He is learning critical thinking as well as reading comprehension on the side. The study has encouraged application and is teaching him the ability to make conclusions on his own based on the text. He's even referred to things he's learned from the study in the normal course of our day.
