With a suggested reading age of Grades 3-8, that is about spot on for this informational book on diamonds. Written with children in mind this book also challenges. There are 9 chapters followed by a quiz, activities and a glossary. The Kindle version has a good linked index so very easy to find where you want to be.What are diamonds made from? Chapter 2 explains that carbon is a very common atom and is even found inside of every human! Diamonds and graphite are 100% carbon. Why are these SO different? Diagrams are included to illustrate the point.Where are diamonds formed? Learn about the make up of the earth. How come we find diamonds on the the surface? What's a Kimberlite pipe? The quiz consists of 12 questions, one per page with the answer following. There are some great activities at the end to really reinforce and expand your child's knowledge of this subject.Two things of note:This book is written using metric measurements, mostly kilometers.Written from an evolutionary standpoint but don't let that deter you. If you are a creationist there is still a wealth of great information to be gleaned from this book for your kids.Do I recommend this? Yes! Will our kids be reading it? Yes! Several photographs and diagrams are used to illustrate scientific process presented. Minor editing is need for punctuation and word usage, i.e. using an instead of a. The book also lacks a suggestive reading list or list of references.
