Unlike others, who didn`t read the book, but decided to write about the story anyway, I read this tome from beginning to end and now I can post my opinion about this recent release from Dark Horse.First the cover: it is made by Cary Nord and, though he actually did not work in the story, his contribution here is worthy. Nice colors and a very dinamic scene where Conan and the pirate Sergius fight against each other to see who is gonna command the pirate`s group. It actually represents one of the pinnacles of the whole plot and it is well done. The main story: it is an adaptation of Iron Shadow in the Moon, by Robert E. Howard, creator of Conan, in which the cimmerian, after loosing a fight against Shah Amurath`s army, struggles to leave an island where he headed to after killing the Shah.I won`t talk much about it because readers may have never heard about this tale, but I`ll only say that this is a very well done adaptation of one of the most famous stories written by Howard. And it is not shallow as others assume it to be. In the 70`s Marvel adapted this tale (see Savage Sword of Conan vol. 1 from Dark Horse) and this is as good as Marvel`s/Roy Thomas work, and that is really something. The art is top notch. Giorello feels confortable and there are many splash pages in the book where you can feel the intensity of the fights, represented with a lot of detail and energy. I have not seen such in many years of this current run and that really caught my attention. Colors are well rendered, though some choices are questionable, like representing the sky`s tone with too much pink in some panels, but that is just me I think. A minor gripe.
