This volume collects material from the 1995 to 1998 Dark Horse run of Tarzan. Tarzan #1 to #20 plus the one shot special A Tale Of Mugambi. These are some great Tarzan stories done with an All Star cast of creators and priced at under $25 for over 500 pages which makes it is also a great deal. The production values and the reproduction are top notch and reproduced on slick glossy paper. Comparing them to Marvel's Epic Collection which also run about 500 pages a volume. But thid is on better paper and can be found for about $10 to $15 cheaper.Now for my two complaints. First these are reproduced slightly smaller then standard comic size . Not as small as a digest but some where in between digest and standard comic size. They are completely readable even by me with my ancient eyes, but I still would have preferred the bigger size even if it warranted a price increase.My second complaint is that includes the covers of only 13 issues out of the 21 possiable covers are reproduced here. I sure wish the other 8 could have been included here since the covers are a thing of beauty, done by some greats. You get Arthur Suydam, Igor Kordey, Christopher Schenck, Bernie Wrightson, Mike Kaluta, Mark Schultz and John Totleben who paints some beautiful pieces for the final story.The book opens with the Mugambi one shot. Mugambi is Tarzan's African friend who plays a large role in Burroughs The Beasts Of Tarzan novel. The story has the feel of Mythology or Legend. The story comes from a talented pair of Croatians. Darco Macan the writer went on to do much for Dark Horse's Star Wars run. Artist Igor Kordey you might remember from his work on Grant Morrison's X-Men run. Kordey's art reminds of a cross between Richard Corben and Frank Quitely.
