While in many ways I found this book to be a good introduction to secular humanism, I was annoyed by a few things. Primarily it was the many tangents pursued. The author would put forth a concept and opine that it was not central to secular humanism (which I found informative and valuable) but then proceed down that tangent in a lengthy manner, often expounding on his own personal position on the superfluous concept. Of less concern to me (because it did little to detract from my understanding of the subject matter) were the numerous grammar problems. This included lots of poor sentence structure (that could be cured with proper use of punctuation) as well as verb tense errors and such. I can't tell how much of this might be due to poor OCR in scanning from a printed text or how much the author is to blame, but there was a clear need for an editor and proof reader.All that aside, I would recommend the book to those seeking an introduction to the subject. It solidified my long-held suspicion that I am fundamentally a secular humanist.
There were some typos, but the book was still very readable. I didn't agree with the author on every topic, but he did raise some interesting questions.
