I purchased this book as a gift for a teacher friend. It is absolutely beautiful. The pictures, writings are just perfectfor teaching "Peace". I would highly recommend this book. Simply wonderful.
I admit I bought this book not only for the lovely message, but for this artist's illustrations. They are so detailed and captivating that you can really spend hours looking at them and enjoying them. This is one book not to be rushed through. I love the ideas portrayed that we all can be bearers of peace in the lives of others- that it's not just something for world leaders to hash out.
Wendy has captured the element of Peace with her beautiful illustrations and quotations!This is a multigenerational book that will be wonderful for discussions in the classroom or the home!It will make a great gift!
The illustrations are gorgeous and innovative, but the winding text is visually very difficult to read. Most of the text is a series of quotations on the subject of peace, which I feel doesn't lend itself to multiple re-readings. The simplicity of the main text would have stood beautifully on its own, without the snaking quotations, and would have given the message more impact. Also, without the annoying text placement, this would have been a more inviting book to read over and over to my child.
This is a beautiful book, exactly what I wanted to set the tone in our lives with my children. It helps put in your mind the larger world, and imparts serenity as you sit with your child. My two year old daughter loves to look at the pictures, and I hope my seven year old son will start reading it to us soon. I want many books like this! I also love Good People Everywhere. The illustrations are lovely, soothing, and intricate.
This book has become my favorite gift book for adults even though it is a picture book for children. The many quotes and drawings supporting the straight forward and simple, yet poignant story line speak to the world as lessons for us all.
As a fan of Wendy Anderson Halperin, this book was chosen strictly on her art workand the reputation of her previous books. This book is a one-of-a-kind text. Pictures by artist and children are amazing and on target. The story is front to back, back to front kind of story. Excellent. Loved the text. Loved the book.
