I can hear John Denver singing in my ear, "gee, it's good to be back home again," because that's how I feel whenever I read one of Shanna Hatfield's Pendleton Petticoat Series books. It's like going to a family reunion and staying awhile to catch up on all the gossip, the births, the deaths, and of course, who's marrying who? This is truly a story of East meeting West and love reining in and embracing the differences between two cultures. This book touches on something so much deeper than the story itself. It certainly gave me many things to ponder as I read it. Shanna is also spot on with her timing of events included in the story because she constantly researches everything before she writes. And, as always, she's included a recipe at the end of the book plus loads of great links for interesting information for further reading.See y'all at the next reunion when we meet Bertie....I'll bring the potato salad!!
Grab a cup of coffee or tea and your favorite blanket and enjoy another love story by Shanna Hatfield. If you like historical romance novels you will enjoy reading Lacy by Shanna Hatfield. I have never been disappointed with any of her novels. Each time she publishes a new novel I continued to be amazed that she creates and captures my interest from the very beginning. She weaves stories that keeps you coming back to find what happens to the new characters that you are introduced to in each novel. And as you read about Lacy and Grant you also get to stay in touch with all the other characters that you have meant through her other Pendleton series novels. (Each novel can be read as stand alone story so don't worry if this is your first Shanna Hatfield novel. I am sure, if this is your first novel by Shanna that before long you will be an avid of fan of her writing style).I always set aside time to read any one of Shanna Hatfield's novels as I want to read the entire story without interruptions. Not that ever happens but I try and make sure I have several hours at a time to enjoy her story's. I find it hard to put down her novels and end up loosing sleep. (that to me is evidence of a great story teller, when you can't put the book down). So Shanna, THANK YOU again for a wonderful historical romance novel. So glad that Grant finally "gets the girl" LOL......Looking forward to Bertie's story and eventually Nik's when he comes to Pendleton as Dr Nik!!!!
Poor Lacy Williams! Never has a deserving heroine been saddled with such adversity as this lovely Native American maiden. Lacy longs to escape from her reservation near turn-of-the-century Pendleton Oregon and make her own way in the world. Ever since the untimely death of her mother, her father has stubbornly kept to the old traditions and refuses to embrace the "white man's ways." He has already arranged a marriage for Lacy to Phillip, another man who is so hide-bound that he still lives in a tipi! Lacy escapes to Pendleton and gets a job as a telephone operator. She literally runs into the most eligible bachelor in town, Grant Hill, who owns the most successful bank in town. Grant has his own dilemma in that every single woman in town wants to marry him but seemingly only for his money and lofty status. That goes for his haughty, prideful and snobbish east-coast Mother who insists he marry a proper lady of class. Hard-working Lacy and Grant cautiously form an affectionate friendship as Grant tries to assist her but Lacy's pride and refusal to be considered a charity case get in the way. We meet all of the loveable characters from the author's previous 4 installments in the Pendleton Petticoats series (Aundy, Ilsa, Caterina, and Marnie)as they befriend the lovely and noble Lacy. One of the characters skulking around town is not so nice and becomes a dangerous threat to Lacy's security and well-being in spite of the efforts of Sheriff Kade and Lars who look after her. With threats from her father to force her back on the reservation and Grant's visiting mother who sees Lacy as just another primitive indian and a stalker who wants to bespoil her, what's a young woman to do? You'll have to read Lacy for yourself and be totally entertained from cover to cover with this latest sweet wholesome western romance.
Another wonderful book by one of my favorite authors. I love Grant from the other books and knew he would make a great hero of his very own. Good looking, sensitive, caring and helpful to friends and the community, he wishes he could find the woman who would look past his money and love him for the man he is. Lacy, is a perfect match for him. Lovely and very determined to find her own way in life is just so sweet and adorable, you just can't help root for her and a HEA. I love all the characters in Pendleton and It's so nice to catch up with each one from the past books. After all, each of them have captured a piece of my heart and I enjoy reading about their lives. Looking forward to the next one in this series and who might star in his or her own story. This is what I call a clean read but with a lot of romance. JudyE
Shanna Hatfield has done it again. Lacy it probably one of the most realistic story in this wonderful and beautiful series of the Pendleton Brides. She is Indian and wants off the reservation to live a more modern and different life than she is used too. She gets a job at the telephone office at the switchboard in a all white town. Add that complexity to a budding friendship and buddy romance of two different sets of people and families and you have a complex, fun, witty, and wonderful story.I loved all the stories in this series but this one I think stands out because of the time in history and the mixing of white and Indian cultures and stubborn families. This is a great, fantastic story with those twists and turns and all the complexity of Shanna's stories.I highly recommend this story as with all the others in the series but I also recommend starting with Aundy and progress in order as you will know the characters right from the start that go into each story in this budding town of Pendleton, OR. You won't be able to put it down and you won't want too.
