I was looking for a book that would have intriguing and fun facts for kids. Some were. However, so many entries chose celebrity and wealth as the standard for recognition, that I was not comfortable passing the book along. I am truly disappointed in Scholastic's shallow focus because I know their books influence kids.

People all over the world are coming up with ideas and ways to beat existing world records or are coming up with their own new first time achievements. Scholastic has put together a wonderful page turner filled with records in categories like science and technology, money, pop culture, nature,s ports and more. Short bursts of fact based information are found on each page so that readers can be brought up to speed on what world records exist. If readers are up to speed with the latest video games then they will be interested in knowing that Super Mario is the best selling video game franchise with over 290 million copies sold. Sports enthusiasts will want to know that Manchester United is the most valuable soccer team and the Los Angeles Dodgers was the most expensive sports team purchase costing Guggenheim Partners $2 billion. The top-grossing animated movies was Toy Story 3, the worlds largest coral reef is the Great Barrier Reef, and the most common insect is the beetle. There is a section for records accomplished in the United States alone. For example, Minnesota has the largest indoor amusement park and Idaho harvests the most farm-raised trout. Anything and everything you'd want to know can be found in colorful pictures and graphs. Each page has a large color photo, a graph indicating the points of each participating country and a paragraph describing the record. Its simplicity makes it easy to navigate and find exactly what your are looking for. Kids around the world participated in the Scholastic Summer Challenge and read for 176,438,473 minutes. Parents and teachers can challenge kids to read for the world record. To learn how is shown in the back of the book. There are more than 300 records found on these pages. Readers of all ages will be astonished at what they will find.

I purchased this book after learning that is was being sold for more at a book sale. I usually get two of everything because we have twins, this time I made the mistake of not purchasing two. The kids could not wait to read the book. They said it was great. Patiently waiting for 2015

Purchased this for a 10 year old and she loves it. It's the perfect world records book for children around thisage because it only contains records that would interest them. Large size, all pictures are in color and textis written perfectly for ages 9-11.

You cannot go wrong with this book of records for kids under 15. The 2014 Scholastic Book of World Records avoids the wacky and the senseless. No tattooed wonders or folks with multiple holes poked through them. This is a straight forward tome of the greatest, most, tallest, longest, smallest, best, etc. with stories and photos to provide background and color for every age. This book is fun for everyone, and contains facts on science and technology, sports, pop culture, and much more.

this book is one of the most highly recommended books I can get! It has records of all kinds of categories from video games to sports. And its info is as accurate as August-September of 2013. Seriously, If you are on looking for a good and accurate record book, I highly recommend this one. Its so cool, trust me, you'll like it!

This is a great book for kids. It does miss some of the childhood memories I have from previous world record books. Like tallest and shortest persons. Other than that great pictures.

I purchased this for my grandson who is 12 years of age. I keep it in my car so he has something interesting to read. Now all my grandchildren read it and have alot of fun!
