We like this book because each page reveals a new animal that was hiding on Old MacDonald's farm. Each page also reveals the noise that animal makes right along with the famous kids' song. The cutouts, hidden animals, escalating noise on the farm, and the farmer's increasing discomfort make for a fun read. At the very end, a whole new slew of animals and noises are presented, just in case you still have breath in you to keep on singing. The illustrations are fantastic. They are fun, colorful, and present animals behaving in pretty funny ways. This is a repeat read, as so many kids' books are.

Just to clarify, guns and whiskey are not in this book anymore. Perhaps it's a newer edition now. The pictures are all of wholesome, fun on the farm activities (fishing, playing golf, tossing the caber, dancing, etc). 100% child appropriate and very enjoyable. I currently own both the board-book and Big Book versions.

I'm really torn on this book. The animals and the format are wonderful. The illustrations are cute. I was surprised when I got four pages into it, and Old Macdonald had a shotgun. Then by the end of the book, he was squeezing the last drop out of his whiskey bottle. I would love to see the publisher update the book and replace these drawings. I'm all for free speech and letting kids read the classics in school and not banning books. I'm just not ready to explain guns and alcoholism to my toddler. I don't know whether to take the book away from her or let her read it and hope she never asks.

This is a terriffic book for use in the music classroom, and at home. As a book that can be either sung or read: it is versatile. It's large size and colorful illustrations draw kids attention. I have personally found it to be very effective with my kindergarten through third grade students. I highly reccommend it to anyone looking for a good book for younger kids that can be sung or read!

We left our paper back copy of this book in the pediatrician's office one day so we ordered another copy. I did not realise this was a small board board copy, but it will hold up better this way and my son still loves it (Been one of his favorites for almost 2 years) . Each page introduces a new animal and sound and the last page includes extra animal noises. Very cute.

Overall, I don't recommend this book. I bought a new copy from , not an older used copy. And I have to day this is one out of date, old fashioned style book. Not only is the illustration a little old fashion, which really isn't a big deal, I can get on board with that. But the animals say weird things. The horse doesn't say neigh, it says whiney whiney. The pig doesn't say oink, it' says grunt grunt. It's probably very confusing to a young toddler just learning what noises animals make.Overall, there are much better books out there for animal noises. I don't recommend this one.

I got this because of the colorful pictures on the cover and thought that my 3yr old would enjoy it. All the pages have almost the exact same picture on it, with a different animal in the same phrase on every page. It was ok for the first 3 pages, then I couldnt see going through the whole farm for this one. I ended up going to a different book because it was wayyyy too redundant. I know the song is, but i would expect better illustation.

My parents have this in the 13" x 13" paperback form my son loves it! I love the board book one because as a two-year-old he can't tear it up and can look at it as much as he wants all by himself.
