Church teachings on sexual morality are not intended to enslave us to some out-dated or unreachable moral code. They are based on the dignity and worth of each individual. Mr. Percy provides this readable and brief summary of Pope John Paul II's teaching on the foundations of sexual morality in this handy little volume. Some have called the "theology of the body" that John Paul taught, "a theological time bomb." It has been just that and the impact is not over. John Paul gave the best and most intellectually stimulating challenge yet to the so-called "sexual revolution" of the 20th century. The reverberations of this teaching will be felt for centuries. If you have ever had difficulty explaining to young people the reasons for sexual purity, you need this book. Share it with them as well. Find out what John Paul meant when he talked about, original solitude, original unity, original nakedness, and original sin. What you find may just be another sexual revolution in your heart. It is a theology of freedom, not slavery.
simple and truthful. It is a great tool for any young people understanding God's view on marriage, sex, living together, creation from the beginning, and how God's original plan is still in effect, thanks to His son Jesus Christ.
Fr. Percy did a great job in explaining TOB in this book. Very concise and easy to read and to understand. This book can be a good introduction for someone who wants to know TOB but don't have money/time/knowledge to learn the whole teaching. As a husband, now I get better understanding of what's expected from me, what's my role is in my family and my goal that I have to reach together with my wife.
While I have found this book useful as a very basic introduction to the major points (the four original experiences and the related qualities of the human body) contained within the Pope's theology of the body, I find Fr. Percy's writing style to be overly simplistic and repetitive. Had I known that his book lacks the imprimatur and nihil obstat, I would not have bought it, as there are a number of statements that cause me concern. He has at least piqued my interest enough to research the topic further, but I will be much more careful with my book choices from now on. I would not recommend this book to anyone, friend or not, and I am in a quandry as to what to do with my copy; I don't care to keep it, but I hestitate to pass it on to anyone else.
Having recently had Father Percy visit our parish I decided to purchase this book for a bit more information on the topic. Father Percy explains these concepts in simple English and at a level that all can understand.I don't think we usually see the words "theology" and "simple" together very often, but that describes this book very well.
