Just what my daughter needed. I wanted a book that she could read a passage and I could find out if she understood it. There are many multiple choice questions and there is an answer key. Perfect for us.

Both myself and the student enjoy using this book. I love that the stories are nonfiction and are short yet interesting. The format is short story on the left page and questions on the right-hand page, which I find very practical. Often the short story stirs our curiosity to learn more about the topic so we look up further information, photos, and/or videos on the internet to gain further knowledge. Take a look at the Table of Contents, and I think you will see this is a very good Reading Comprehension workbook.

After a horrible teacher ridiculed my son for not understanding books 3 years above his grade level, we began homeschooling him. The teacher had destroyed his love of reading (he'd liked the books--he just didn't "get" them as a 4th grader the way a 7th grader would--she accused him of not reading them and it just killed all his enthusiasm.) We slowly got him reading again by giving him comics, and then allowing him to read whatever books he wanted without testing him on the books. But we were worried about his comprehension skills getting rusty. We got this book to separate reading for pleasure from "testing." He's gifted so we went one year ahead. These were interesting essays--I wish there would be some short stories as well. He's very good with facts but not emotional inference.

I bought this for my rising 6th grader to review along with the math book for grade 5. Because it is half the size of the 8 1/2 by 11 sheets, it seems like so much less to him and he is much less intimidated by doing "summer" academics. Seems like as many problems but just looks differently. Many genres including fables, myths, nonfiction, and fiction. A combination of skills from vocabulary to sequencing and fact/opinion. It has worked really well also because I am using a summer theme of around the world and I have been able to pull different pieces to match each continent because the topics are so varied. Would get it again in a heartbeat. Great great buy!

I have been looking for a vivid and interesting reading workbook for my son for quite some time. This book came as a great help. It contains more than 70 pages of activities with clear explanations and an answer key. My son really liked the stories, which reinforce reading comprehension skills and entice reluctant readers with engaging topics. The questions of the passages are well developed as well. They integrated a lot of knowledge and ideas, which can greatly improve children's critical thinking. This book also provides specific support in the reading skills and standards that my son is learning in his classroom. My son has already seen how the techniques help him in his normal reading work. He is now probably the top language student in his class. In the Beestar online reading tests (a nice website beestar.org), he is ranked high in the honor roll. I’m very pleased with this book. It makes reading fun to my son.

Effective in home schooling with the kids. Great added work after school to improve reading understanding. It's A must buy.

The book has a variety of readings and topics that are fiction and non-fiction. The readings are challenging enough but also short enough to help students practice comprehension skills without getting bored or lost.

The reading comp book has helped my son with his reading skills. The short stories are interesting to him and keep him wanting to read more.
