The Story: The Bible As One Continuing Story Of God And His People
Ebooks Online

“The Greatest Story Ever Told” is more than just a cliché. God has gone to great lengths to rescue lost and hurting people. That is what The Story for Teens is all about—the story of the Bible, God’s great love affair with humanity. Condensed into 31 accessible chapters, The Story for Teens sweeps you into the unfolding progression of Bible characters and events from Genesis to Revelation. Using the clear, accurate, and easy-to-understand text of the New International Version, it allows the stories, poems, and teachings of the Bible to read like a novel. And like any good story, it is filled with intrigue, drama, conflict, romance, and redemption.

I have become a weary traveler among publications like The Story. I'll briefly share why and will, I hope, save the knowledge-seeking reader some time and money.Of course, I'm not criticizing the biblical narrative but this particular paraphraisical abridgment. It seems to me two types of people might discover this book and find it intriguing: 1) a young person for whom archaic and literal biblical language is rather too dense and confusing or 2) an educated adult layperson, perhaps unfamiliar with the stories of the Bible. What this book purports to be is a novelization of the Bible and it seems on its face like a perfectly coherent and soft introduction to the often complicated Christian narrative. But the content doesn't deliver on the promise of the book's publisher's description. The Story is instead a quite incomprehensible and blandly prosaic hodgepodge of direct NIV quotations sandwiched between poorly-written and overly simplistic dialogic segues. It's the worst of both worlds in this regard because The Story utterly overwhelms the novice with arcane geographical and historical references since a great portion of the composition is directly quoted from the NIV and the reader is left wishing they had simply read the actual Bible or chosen a true paraphraisical alternative like The Message or, even better, a quality childrens' Bible. If you're new to scripture and especially of you're trying to teach yourself I recommend skipping The Story and instead buying one of many highly-rated illustrated childrens Bibles or a compendium of Bible stories for children.
