I think that the intended audience of this book is to be a Coffee Table Book for general audiences. This is not a Baker Academic Book. That is not a bad thing, but for those in Bible College or Seminary, you might want to know that this book is intended for more of a general audience and will make many assumptions without necessarily supporting them well (and it's not its purpose to do so). What's good?Pictures and graphics are wonderfully presented. Some are on the small side, but others are large and useful. Text is limited (in such a book) but all of it is engaging and a good read... especially for those just examining the Gospels for the first time seriously. Very nicely done. It is a good length for the intended audience. It is useful without being cumbersome or verbose.I am certain that most who buy this book are going to love it. Therefore, I could not rate this book any lower than 4 stars (and at present, I am the one 4 star rating for this book, so that demonstrates that most love this format and this book. I should probably give it 5 stars too... for it fulfills its designed purpose very well. However, a few things trouble me.What is not as good as it could be?The authors often time "give reasons" for various Gospel events that don't fit well with the Gospel accounts. More often, they simply fill in the details by using some historic backdrop which is extra-Biblical. Therefore, the authors would claim something like, "Jesus family moved away from Judea (to Galilee region) because they were waiting for the Messiah and they didn't want to be put into constricted labor by Herod." Really?
