I am responsible of a course on Multimedia Systems in the Degree on Computer Science in the University of Valladolid, Spain. The book has been very useful as the main reference in the Bibliography of the course. Various aspects of multimedia systems are approached from different levels of depth. The writing technique is based on the presentation of almost self content sections. This strategy easy the reading of the diverse aspect that are described in the book. The authors make a valuable effort for adapting the contents to different levels, going from introductory presentations to algorithmic details. The book put the accent on practical topics such as industrial products and standards. At the same time, the theoretical fundamentals of the industrial services are presented. The publisher offers a service for helping teachers and students with additional resources. They operated very efficiently by sending me the solutions of the exercises that are proposed in the text.
