It has been stated that the future religion of humanity is Nonduality, Advaita. Far from being the conception of a new religion with a mission to sweep the planet in some sensational process of conversion, rather, this is something that is quietly occurring via the presentation, renewal and/or resurgence of the nondual perspective in all religious pathways. In this regard, Rabbi Rami Shapiro seems to have a special mission in Judaism. He has previously authored several books on Hebrew scripture that have identified the subtle threads of nondual Truth and teachings in the sacred tapestry of Judaism, threads spun and woven from ancient times and “before time.”Now, in his recent book, The Divine Feminine in Biblical Wisdom Literature, teachings on the formless, all-pervading Reality at the foundation of the nondual perspective are presented with reverent intimacy and immediacy — and in all Fullness — with the recognition of the Divine Mother, the manifesting Potency of Ultimate Reality, inseparable from It. She has been ever present in the Hebrew Bible as Wisdom itself/Herself: Chochma (ch as in challah) in Hebrew, Sophia in Greek. She is the triple designation of Wisdom, the Way to Wisdom, and the Way of Wisdom. The subtlety here is compelling and entices the attention of the reader who would know Her and take refuge in Her. Rabbi Shapiro writes in the introduction:How do you become wise? “The beginning of Wisdom is this: Get Wisdom!” (Proverbs 4:7). While this teaching may seem solipsistic, it actually reveals an important aspect of Chochma: The way to Wisdom is Wisdom Herself. You do not work your way toward Her; you take hold of Her from the beginning.

Rabbi Rami Shapiro does the reader of biblical Wisdom literature a great service by focusing on key passages and providing profound commentary that allows for slow reading and "digesting" of proverbs emanating from the subtle voice of Wisdom. As Gerhard von Rad wrote in his Introduction to his book Wisdom in Israel: "Once an experience has found expression in a proverb, a sentence, a maxim or even in an aphorism, a multi-layered process has come to an end. In the interval, the validity of the experience in question must have been proved. ... It can ... like a precious stone among trinkets, outshine a poem of the highest quality. The demand which it must always satisfy is that of brevity, of compactness and yet of intelligibility, with, if possible, a clear graphic quality; in short, that of being easily remembered. ... Many of these, by their often remarkably profound content but also by their literary form, invite the reader to pause at length over them. ... They are, in fact, concerned with the achieving of a certain distance from that which is near and everyday, from that which everyone knows and yet no one knows or understands" (Abingdon Press, 1972, pp. 4-5).Wisdom in IsraelBecause the form and the content speak with one voice in these pages, this presentation of Rabbi Shapiro's work underlines his assertion in his Introduction "About the Wisdom Literature" that "The truth of a proverb is self-evident. You only have to hear a proverb once and you will know it is true. It is as if the proverb reflected truths already embedded in the human psyche as well as in the doings of the nonhuman world of nature" (p. xxvii).
