I bought two of these devotionals as Christmas presents for my younger brothers who are 10, and 12 respectively. I bought the corresponding Bible for my 10 year old brother, and I bought the NIV Revolution Bible for the 12 year old. As soon as I browsed through the pages, I loved it. The Devotional is prescribed for "boys" but this can adequately serve a young man up until 15. Each devotional uses scriptural lessons to provide young men with great values that should encourage them to be Stronger, Smarter, Deeper, and Cooler in Christ. The devotional is written in black and white (a turn off to some young boys), however, it is laid out in a format that is easy to understand and follow e.g. Day 1, Day 2, Day3..., etc. This is a great way to give your young man an independent approach to studying the Word of God. It is also a tool that can be used for family devotions. It will aid parents in starting discussions that would be otherwise difficult to start.I would recommend this devotional for any young man between the ages of 10 and 15. For the older boys (especially if you have a young man who does not enjoy reading), this might be better suited to them than a devotional that is prescribed for their age range. The content is not "babyish", yet it is presented in a simple straight forward way. I am a young woman, and even though the devotion is prescribed for young men, I was able to take take some valuable lessons from this, and glean certain portions of scripture in a new light. It is certainly a way to keep the Word of God, alive and current for your young man.
I bought this for my mentee--a 7th grade boy. It is right on the edge of too young for him, but he has been reading it and likes it (I checked out the 'teen' devotions and they were too old as far as I'm concerned and comfortable with) There is some really good advice and talking point starters--all really Bible based and practical.
I just gave this book to my 10 year old nephew and he loves it!!! He has been reading a passage or 2 daily and is amazed with the messages he finds... so appropriate to his day to day challenges with friends, family, classmates. A great book for young boys!
My son is 12 and we read one of these devotionals each morning during breakfast. I like the topics chosen for discussion, the verses used for the daily devotion, and the way the topic is discussed. I think this is helping him think through some issues he faces and it's opening new conversations for us to share.
My son (10) asked for some type of devotional & this seemed to fit the bill. It is a nice kid friendly devotional. We use it as a discussion starter & have gotten our son to open up & share more with us. The devotions are related to biblical stories, so if he wants he can go look the stories up in the bible & learn even more. I do think that if you have a slightly older child this might be a little young, but the problem that I found is that the devotionals seem to skip the tweens (10-13).
My ten year old son enjoys this devotional. He likes discussing the stories with me and telling me how he can apply this to his life.
My 11 year old son loves this! I didn't know what he would think - he is always wanting to learn more about the Bible...and this is a great tool for him for daily quiet time. He always asks if he can read 2 devotionals a night - not just the one for today. He even took it on our most recent trip and vacation to the beach. He loves it!
great daily devotional for my son. It is a perfect night time routine for him to read one of these before sleep. I like the idea that this is the last thing he thinks about before sleep and that it's quick enough to do on almost every night.
