The only regret is that I waited until after 2nd grade was over to purchase this set. I almost bought the set after kindergarten & first grade reading struggles but thought she just needed more practice. The struggle was still there. I had my doubts that she already would know what the set would teach and that it wouldn't help. We bought the set a month or so ago and we are shocked at the difference already after several lessons. Both her reading and her writing have drastically improved. Anyone thinking this is expensive...there is no price tag too high to know your child will learn to read and his/her future as an adult will hinge on your decision to buy the set. I'm extremely pleased! Excellent product!!
We have all of the Hooked on Phonics. I can't recommend it more. We used it during the summer to keep her from forgetting what she had learned during the school year, and also to help her advance when she was having trouble in school. She's currently using Master Reader, and reading like a pro (when she wants to - but that's a whole separate story!)
Hooked on Phonics Learn to Read is a truly excellent product. I have used Hooked on Phonics with my grandson at the kindergarten and first grade levels. Formerly a struggling reader, he has now completed the kinder and first grade programs and will be starting the 2nd grade program shortly (he is a first grader). The programs are carefully crafted in a step-by-step fashion that allows for consistent progress and success. I have provided extra motivation by allowing him to earn computer game time at the end of a lesson. He has also been allowed to earn small prizes from an inexpensive prize box as a performance reward. The story books that accompanied each grade level are very well written, often describing humorous events. My grandson and his younger sister both enjoy having the books read aloud as they laugh at the funny situations described in the plots. I recommend Hooked on Phonics Learn to Read for any parent who wants to help their child advance his or her reading skills and/or who has a struggling reader who will benefit from this expertly formulated program.
As a homeschooling momma, I'm convinced Hooked on Phonics is the best. I'm so pleased with how quickly my kids are learning. My two year old is even walking around the house, repeating the letter sounds, since he hears his older siblings doing it.
I love the HOP Program. Initially my sons daycare provider started him reading on the Kindergarten HOP Program when he was just 4.5 and it worked wonders. Admittedly, I did not keep up with the program and I wished I would have because he could have been so much further ahead than he is now. He turned 6 last month and is in 1st grade (he started school a year early) and I purchased this set a few weeks ago to help increase his reading skills. He got through level 1 in less than 3 days! (While he was on Winter Break). I will say, Level 2 was a little bit more of a challenge for him and took him about 2 weeks to complete the series and read all 4 books. This has drastically improved his reading. He was barely reading on a 2nd grade level but now he is reading Accelerated reading books on a 2.6 and 2.9 level. We have just started the HOP Master Reading Program and my goal is to finish by September. I still do refer back to his HOP 2nd grade workbooks as a review of words. I definitely recommend this product. I did not get the 1st grade HOP...but it didn't seem like we missed much there. However, I wish I would have gotten it when we finished the Kindergarten one because he could be on a 3rd grade reading level by now.
Satisfied with this product. I especially like the various types of text in the workbooks. The storybooks are quite long which I think is very suitable for those who want to read independently.
I am so happy with this purchase! We order HOP a few weeks ago and already my son has been more confident in reading and writing. I'm so proud of him. Box was in excellent condition, came with a main practice book and star stickers to mark each day complete. At the end of each unit they have a book to read and that is a huge accomplishment!
We used hooked on phonics K, 1st grade, and 2nd grade to get our non-reading 5-year-old into complete reading territory. Plan to use all the sets for future children.
