Take some time to read this book with a Bible in hand. If we will only believe and yeild to the power of God as revealed in the New Covenant we will enter into a greater fullness in the Christian walk. A great companion book is Murray's commentary on the book of Hebrews.
Every Christian should read this book or one very similar to get a clear understanding of the 2 covenants set forth by GOD Without the knowledge of both of these the true believer will never be able to put the puzzle of the word together especially in New Testament, they will stay mixed up with Romans/ Galations/ 1-2-3 John/ James/ and many of the other books in the word!! I had a very old Sunday School Teacher say this: THE OLD TESTAMENT IS THE NEW TESTAMENT CONCEALED AND THE NEW TESTAMENT IS THE NEW TESTAMENT REVEALED!!!! By reading about the 1st covenant, you will see why it was so necessary to have the 2nd covenant, where bulls/ sheep/ goats could only sooth the conscience from sin in the 1st for a short period of time, CHRIST of the 2nd covenant, could sooth the conscience and make a way for all Believers to live above sin and be controlled by the Comforter in the Holy Spirit if we let him have his way!!! thru Santification. Through living in the 2nd dispensation thru CHRIST, we can then crucify self and let the Holy Spirit lived CHRIST'S life through us, self has to die, Paul make a statement, "I CRUCIFY SELF DAILY " "JESUS" said " PICK UP YOUR CROSS AND FOLLOW ME""
Heard about the book from the pastor (Wesleyan Seminary) on radio on Sunday morning (91.5 fm) Got this book in rapid time and chose standard shipping!! however this book may have saved my life - I wanted to walk across a busy hiway! (written in 1898?) and I knew all about Blood Covenant, but with life, worries and all my supreme screw ups that got me here ~ I really had lost faith and had begun believing GOD had turned his face far far from me. Good Grief just the first two pages of this book filled me with such hope and wanting to surrender to the Covenant GOD from this guy's wonderful description! The terminology slightly from that time of course BUT still simple enough to reach out to anyone needing & seeking, and make me long to be with the Covenant GOD of the ages past and the fulfiller of the New Covenant = JESUS. Yes, to give Him all my problems, he being my covenant partner...he knows what to do and take it off me. This sounds far out to the natural or atheist but sorry it rescued me and my miserable self! I hope the rest of the book keeps me glued.
The two covenants are a very indepth study that all who claim to be Christians should understand. It will help you to not loose your way and start being works oriented. We are saved by grace through faith and not of works, but if we look to the cross then by beholding we are changed. The works are then a fruit of our love for God and what He has done for us in giving His Son, Jesus. The works are still there but they come from a grateful heart, in loving service to the Master, not drudgery. Good book, well written.
This book is one of the most liberating book I have read in 72 years!...what it really means to be a child of the marvelous New Covenant. Jesus died and rose for all believers to walk in all these promises from our loving Heavenly Father.
I have read this book a couple times and truly it is a life changing read. I use it as a book for students in my bible school I teach in Africa. Murrays books are very good but for me this is one of the best- and the price on this is a steal!
So much information and good reading for any level of maturity in the Christian walk. But I highly recommend it forthe mature Christian who has read the Bible through more than once.
It is informative.. a little too detailed and a little like a "textbook" .. but it does look like the person is explaining the comparison of the Covenant theology well...
