The Saint Faustina Prayer Book is a compilation of prayers, meditations and insights from St. Faustina’s Diary intertwined with Catholic prayers, devotions and teachings. Susan Tassone, author of eight best-selling books about Purgatory, noted that her purpose in writing this book was twofold. “We are on a mercy mission with St. Faustina to help obtain relief and release for the Souls in Purgatory, and to also help those of us on earth to avoid Purgatory.” Susan’s wonderful book covers the seven pillars that God provides to help the Holy Souls: doing the will of God in all things, Mass, Scripture, Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, Stations of the Cross, and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. There is a section called “Purgatory in the Eyes of St. Faustina” with twelve daily meditations. It is fascinating to read about St. Faustina’s encounters with the Holy Souls. Susan also included an examination of conscience based on the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy – a very good addition in this Year of Mercy. There is a section on supplications to Our Lady for the Holy Souls. Also included are prayers for the dying and for a happy death. A great inclusion to this book was the last section entitled “Frequently Asked Questions About Purgatory.” There are 16 questions, such as “Where is Purgatory in the Bible?” and “Is Purgatory a Place or a State?” I think this was a brilliant idea for Susan to add this to her book. Her answers are concise and easily understood. And this book has an Imprimatur and a Nihil Obstat, which are official declarations that the book is free from doctrinal or moral error. I love this book and will be purchasing more copies to give as gifts.
Susan Tassone has done a masterful work with this latest prayer book on Purgatory following St. Faustina Kowalska's life. She has made us all so keenly aware of the plight of souls who don't receive help by great monuments, flowers, etc but by sacrifices and prayer offered daily non stop! I have searched for a very long time prayers on Purgatory and sadly this has been always missed in most grand prayer books!! Thank you Susan for hearing the plight of the poor souls and making this your mission. It must be all the church's mission to ceaselessly prayer for those who have passed. Blessed John XXIII asked the souls to pray for him too... and that's all they can do. They can no longer pray for themselves but rely on us. I would like to ask Susan if her next book of prayers could be a little less "busy" and just focused on prayers. "Daily Prayers for the Poor Souls....." Just a suggestion. Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!! ;-)
I HIGHLY recommend this prayer book!!! I was commissioned to paint the icon for this cover, and over the course of painting it I learned so much about the devotion to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Its a beautiful and much need devotion. It's perfect prayer book to take into Adoration or to read before or after mass. . If you have ever lost a loved one or wondered about purgatory this is the perfect book for you. Author Susan Tassone also know as the Purgatory Lady is an expert on Purgatory. I had always had a fascination or curiosity about purgatory, Susan answered them all. ENJOY your new found devotion to the Holy Souls in Purgatory with this book!!!
Coincidentally I received the “St. Faustina Prayer Book for the Holy Souls in Purgatory” just in time for Divine Mercy Sunday, which falls on the weekend after Easter. I wasn’t able to get to a church for the ritual devotion, so instead I spent the afternoon reading many of the prayers in this book.Truth be told, I don’t have a close affinity for St. Faustina Kowalska. She is the humble nun in Poland that the Catholic church has declared was asked by God to proclaim to the world his message of divine mercy. She lived a life of sacrifice, suffering and piety during World War II. It was her confessor who told her to write down her divine conversations into a sort of diary.A sampling of the spirituality of St. Faustina has now been combined in this prayer book, along with age old Catholic devotions for the holy souls. It is Susan Tasone’s ninth book championing the souls in purgatory and it helps spread devotion to the Divine Mercy as well. There’s an introduction to Faustina’s story, and many (numbered) references to Faustina’s dialogue on the holy souls. It also holds surprises, like Faustina’s “Divine Mercy Stations of the Cross,” “A Novena for the Suffering Souls,” and “The Divine Mercy Rosary for the Holy Souls.”Tassone, known as “the purgatory lady,” has also included a Q&A section about purgatory. The book itself is to be savored a little at a time during prayer or meditation, not to be read at one sitting. A wonderful book to take to adoration.
I've been reading a number of books on Divine Mercy in preparation for the Jubilee Year of Mercy. I was fortunate to have a pastor in my New York parish who knew Pope John Paul II and had worked in the Vatican for years. He was aware of the importance of Divine Mercy when Pope John Paul II became Pope and he had a large picture put up in the entrance to our church. He gave talks on Divine Mercy and I was s fortunate to have a head start on this incredible devotion! When we moved to a different State, we had a priest who worked with us on the beginning of the Divine Mercy book "33 Days to Morning Glory." It was the summer of 2015 and that is when I really focused on learning as much as I could on Divine Mercy. I have a number of books and each has helped me understand God's Divine Mercy more and more. I became familiar with Susan Tassone when I got her book on the rosary for the souls in purgatory; it's outstanding! Praying for the Souls is a very important part of Divine Mercy and when I saw her interviewed on EWTN about this book, I ordered it immediately. It is not lengthy but it is so full of knowledge about the Souls in Purgatory and our role in helping them attain Heaven. I can't begin to list all the wonderful things I have learned and the beautiful prayers included; there are other reviews which are outstanding. I just wanted to add my 2 cents in terms of urging anyone who is looking for a wonderful book that will enrich your life and add to your knowledge of Divine Mercy not to hesitate in getting this book! I've got some wonderful books on Divine Mercy; this one is outstanding!
