This is a very thorough book about plain buggies. The author always did his homework, and it shows in this book. He recently died, and will be much missed both personally and as a writer. If you want to learn to ID any group's buggy at a glance, this book will teach you how--along with much good general information.
There is nothing more defining of Old Order sects than the use of the buggy. Plain Buggies is a good book on a topic often ignored. Originally published in the 1980's some of the information is out of date. However, the historical background information pertaining to which communities adopted which sorts of buggy styles is accurate from my experience. We have been in 5 amish communities, lived in 2. I know that's kind of limited, but it's all I have to go on. It's definately not an exhaustive work, nor was it intended to be such. However, it is an excellent introductry work at a very reasonable price.
Another gift for the same lady. She tells me that she really gets a lot from these books. I try to keep buying her books of this tyoe.
