I think this workbook has a great variety of activities to support Kingergarten level reading skills. I think it was especially smart of them to include so many pictures for kids to describe and answer questions about, to encourage reading comprehension before kids are able to do so with a written text. There are of course also plenty of activities in the book supporting word recognition and sounding things out, and a few worksheets of classifying objects as same or different. Overall I think it's well balanced as a stand alone text, but really shines when combined with the other Spectrum language arts workbooks. I'd definitely recommend it for pre-k and kindergarten parents who want to work with reading skills with their kids at home in a more formal way than just reading lots of books together (but keep doing that too of course!!)I received a free copy of this and several other workbooks from the publisher to review on my blog and you can read that full review here if interested: http://crunchyconservativemommy.blogspot.com/2014/11/spectrum-workbooks-from-carson-dellosa.htmlI was not asked to review these books on as part of that deal-I just decided to because I liked them so much!

I bought this book to help my child get some extra studying in for kindergarten. He used this book to help identify sounds of letters, identify letters, practice writing and develop basic critical thinking skills. I feel this book is useful. The colorful activities helped keep my kid engaged in studying. I saw his writing improve from all the practice writing as well. I was not sure what activities to do with my child to help him learn and found myself struggling to come up with fun games or fun writing activities. This book has helped provide me with a way to teach my child how to write. I do not enjoy teaching my son but this book has made quite a difference. I have bought the Grade 1 work book from this company and will be using it prior to school starting to give my son a jumpstart on his education. I have bought him both the reading and math versions for Grade 1. I wish I would have had work books like this when I was a child. I am very pleased with this product. I like that it has a name line to help my son learn to write his full name for assignments for school.

My youngest daughter isn't keen on reading - she CAN read but keeps refusing to do so in front of me because she does't want to mess up. She's in love with this book. We do 3-4 pages/day and she begs for more. I'm so happy. I like the way it's laid out and the progression is fast enough to keep her interested and slow enough that she gets the concepts.

Use this for supplemental work with my EC students!

This book starts with basic reading with the story of a dog "Max".It helps to keep the kids engaged and develop love for reading.A good start!

Great great book for young kids who have started to read. My 3 year old loves to do here work sheets everyday and it helps build on her skills.
