I have this book and also the Felicity doll and I really enjoy the American Girl books and found this to be my favorite out of them all. The story shows that back in the 1700's girls had the same problems and adventures that they do today.I reccommend this book to any young girl.

Felicity loves horses and hates having to sit still and straight. Then she hears that cruel old Jiggy Nye has a new horse and just about worked her to death. When she sees the horse she instantly falls in love with her and gives her the name of Penny. She decides if she doesn't do anything about Penny being beaten no one will. Will she be able to save Penny in time?

I live in Williamsburg just like Felicity and I liked the book I think that we could be good friends if she lived today. If you want to have a good time reading, read this book. Felicity has a little sister just like me. Felicity wears colonial clothes and doesn't have TV, but she works all day with her Mom and trys to learn her lessons. There are many books about other girls Molly and Samatha are also fun but they lived a long time ago in a place far from where I live. END

I am ten years old and I just read this book. I thought that it was fun and exciting. I'd like to have a horse like Felicity's horse; Penny!

I received this book when I bought my Felicity doll from American Girl.In this book you meet Felicity Merriman who is a bright, funny girl living in the year 1774.Felicity is quite bored with her routine; sewing, cooking, learning how to be a proper young lady, etc.One day she sees a horse playing out in the pasture. She quickly becomes friends with it, and names it Penny. Later she finds out that the horse belongs to a cruel man named Jiggy Nye who has spent time in jail for animal cruelty.Felicity knows the horse isn't hers, but that doesn't stop her from riding it one day. Jiggy Nye sees her, and tells her that anyone who can ride her may have her. Felicity then hatches a plan to steal the horse, which then backfires. As this is a childrens book, everything does turn out ok in the end.10 stars~~Kat

I really enjoyed reading, "Meet Felicity." The whole story brought the story of American Girl's Felicity Merrimen character and doll to life. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a sweet, historical-fiction story with a courageous role model as a main character.

I owned a hard copy of this book as a girl, and loved it then too. The book combines an engaging story with a nice look at what life was like in Virginia just before the American Revolution. Felicity wants to rescue a horse from being abused by an alcoholic tanner. At the end, as in all the historical American Girls books, is a "Looking Back" section that describes a lot of features of everyday life in colonial Virginia. There have been minor changes to the dialogue since its original publication in 1991; specifically, Jiggy Nye's language is a bit less "colorful" than it once was. Other than that, this is the same book I fell in love with 20 years ago. If your children like horses or history, they will love this book!

Would you be brave enough to fight for something you believe in? “Meet Felicity” is an inspiring book for those young girls out there looking for a strong role model. It has a four-and-a-half rating almost to a five star rating, and it deserves this rating. The book contains a great theme, which is friends, friendship, and family. “Meet Felicity”is the first book for the American Girl Doll series “Felicity.” The book shows what a family was like before the Revolutionary War and how many people acted in Colonial WIlliamsburg in 1774. Later on in the series of the books, Felicity befriends two loyalist children who are in her manners lesson. This first book though is mainly about Felicity overhearing that there was a new horse in town. The owner was Jiggy Nye, the cold spirited man who is abusive to his animals. After hearing about the new horse, Felicity was intrigued, so sneaks off to Jiggy Nye’s tannery and sees the horse and names it Penny, but then later Felicity soon realizes that Penny’s life is in jeopardy and she needs help. Felicity and she is an impatient young girl, but she is still an amazing influence. She stands for what she believes in, she’s determined, ambitious, kind, loving, and she will never give up. She (Felicity) treats Penny, the horse, like a sister and a great friend. Felicity helps Penny gain independence from Jiggy Nye. Felicity is a great young girl to look up to and to have has a role model. This book is definitely not like the regular ole’ historical fiction book you have read. I highly recommend this book, which opens doors for a young girl to learn how to become better person and to always stand up for what she believes in.
