This is the ongoing story of Nate Stewart, would-be Texas Ranger (at the moment, he's too young). With his partner, he's assigned to ride to San Saba, a town not too far away from the Ranger encampment. Trouble comes in doubles, and lead flies. The boys (both are early teenagers) stop a bank robbery, get drop-dead drunk, and pay the price the next morning. What's more, the trip home is full of danger, too. A rousing story by a writer who knows the Rangers and horses forward and backward. Highly recommended.
This is the second book in the Ranger series. It is a good follow up and the story continues. I loved the first book and I didn't find this one quite matching up to the first one but it was still very enjoyable and I am looking forward to the third book in the series.
A well written tale that follows some of the facts of the Texas Ranger lore. It does allow the reader to vicariously tranpose themselves into the time, actions, mindset and trials of the characters - would recommend.
The adventure continues. Young Nate is a probationary Texas Ranger, mentored by his friend Hoot, who is already a Ranger. There is something of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyers about these two, albeit they are a bit older than the two legendary characters created by Mark Twain. Nate is able to spin a yarn and the pair get into trouble from practical joking. Hoot teaches Nate about how to use his Bowie knife, but unsuccessfully tries to get him to try smoking. They are sent to collect supplies, during which time they get drunk and have several other adventures. I won't spoil the tale for you, but I will say that it follows on well from the first novel and promises more in the future. All in all, an exciting tale that is spiced with the author's sense of humour and which oozes authenticity about horses and the Texas Rangers.
In Jim Griffin's first Lone Star Ranger story, Nate Stewart proved worthy to the Texas Ranger outfit who picked him up after his family's demise. Now he and his saddle pard Hoot are sent by themselves to nearby San Saba on a simple supply run. Turns out simple ain't the word for it.Once more the reader is drawn right into the saddle with Nate, with plenty to learn and plenty to entertain. A great series that explores the makings of real heroes --for young men and women of all ages!
Good quick read. Well written and great story of the Texas Rangers. Now to move on to the third book in this series. Keep them coming James.
One great book, there are only two of this series, read them both, they are great...
Again a very well book keep up the good work
