This comic doesn't deserve any stars, however with most rating website rating systems, you can't give zero stars. This comic was literally old stories and comics put together from her old books. And there were no interesting culture references as there had been in Grace's previous books. I'm sad to give this book one star, however I'm really disappointed with this purchase. What the heck Grace??? I know life can get busy but this ridiculous. I felt like this was put together last minute with old stories and you called it good. There was one story that was new, that was it. Waste of money I spent on a "book."

I purchased from the kickstarter as well and couldn't be happier. This comic is just so cute! I've been following her you tube for awhile and this us the first book of hers I've bought. The art style and layout is simple and easy to read, each little story is very cute, and relatable, part of why I love her youtube... highly recommend, planning on buying her others in the future

Unlike her other books, this one had no articles where the author further explains situations, and goes into detail about anything. The majority of the comics were the same ones that she posted for free on taptastic and Line webtoons. I am very disappointed. I have read and purchased her other books and found them enjoyable, the author has lots of potential.

I was part of Grace's kickstarter. I own all four of her books and I have to say that they are favorites. They are often taken off my book shelf and people ask me "Why are these books always strewn about your apartment so much?" And my answer is always the same. "Because they are so loved they are read often and can never just remain on the shelf. Grace is talented and kind. I suggest her comics to someone who has an interest in Japan, has a solid sense of humor and/or is a fan of her youtube series with her husband(or their blog!). Wonderful as gifts or for yourself. I have read and re-read them over and over!

I love this book! The artwork is as cute as Doodle For Food, and I love that the stories in here are based on things that happen in Grace and Ryosuke's life. I may be biased because I used to dream of illustrating comics, but I would definitely buy more books from her. I really like the videos she puts up on youtube, so I'm happy to support her by buying her comics.

I must agree as an avid reader of her post online, that this really is a compilation of her older comics with a new one thrown in occasionally. I am a huge fan of her comics but, I was expecting some more new content. While I do see that hard work that is put into each comic. It kinda is a let down going through and repeatedly thinking that you've already read this.

I read Grace's blog and have watched many of her YouTube videos, so I was very interested in reading this comic book.My Life in Japan is a cute collection of comics based on the author’s life. Grace is originally from Texas, and her husband, Ryosuke, is from Japan; the two met while in college in Pennsylvania, and now live in the Japanese countryside. Through her comic books, blog, and YouTube channel, Grace talks about her experiences in Japan – discussing culture, relationships, food, work, and everyday activities. The book is full funny and sweet moments from Grace and Ryosuke’s lives, often relating to Grace’s experiences as a white American woman living in Japan. In one comic, Grace overhears two children commenting that she doesn’t look like a human; but as the children continue talking, they go on to say that she doesn’t look like a human because she’s so pretty – like a real, living doll! The comics are well-illustrated and witty, and Grace’s drawing style is captivating. A strong component of Grace’s storytelling is that the comics are nicely paced, moving the story along at a skillfully crafted speed. I really enjoyed the book.

I'm not Japanese, but my siblings are half, I grew up there, and in mixed family. I also grew up in Texas. These stories are completely relatable to anyone who has lived in Japan for even a few months. As a Texan, I feel like I have a little more insight as well. Really though, many things are just applicable to anyone with a close relationship with someone who doesn't have the same primary language as you.
