I purchased this book because I am thinking about writing a children's book with a main character who has a disability. "The Graphic Medicine Manifesto" was incredibly helpful. I now have a much better idea of how to tell a story through pictures. I learned about the advantages of using comics and graphic novels to tell a story, particularly a story about medical topics. This book covered everything from the history of comics, whether they are "serious" literature, their role in education (from elementary school through graduate school), capturing emotional and physical experiences in drawings, the "non-artistic" comic artist, and excellent books on related topics. Each of the six chapters is written by an expert in graphic medicine, although they have very different backgrounds and focus on different aspects of the emerging field. Several authors use graphic medicine to teach health humanities and narrative medicine to medical students. Although most of the examples are from comics written for adolescents and adults, but the lessons apply to comics written for any age group.
Good book
