I tend to agree with the person who gave this book one star, but I don't think it is that bad. This book covers all of the topics that are not addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The book covers odd and even, decimals, perpendicular and parallel lines, quadrilaterals, angles, polygons, congruent figures, axial symmetry, rotational symmetry, area, and volume. The problem is that the book assumes the student already knows about different types of triangles and the rules of angles, so there are no instructions in this area. But then the book reviews odd and even numbers, when most kids learn about even and odd numbers in K and 1st grade. And the problems are confusing "3.2 is the number you get from adding ___ tenths." My son's response, "Adding to what?". On page 2 there is a diagram that is supposed to show that 10cm is the diameter of the larger circle (according to the directions), but the picture looks as though 10 cm is the measurement of the smaller circle. My son and I joke that the author really drank the Common core Kool-Aid in writing this book, because that is what some of the questions in this book remind me of ... the convoluted common core questions. But I will say that if a person did the geometry series from the beginning, they may not be as confused. We started at the 5th grade book. That is one major problem with the Geometry series. There is no Kumon book on just plain Geometry and measurement. There are length, width, and volume books, but they are at the 2nd grade level, not the 5th grade level. With the other Kumon Books, a 5th grader can jump into any of the books, read the simple instructions, and be on their way. That is not true with the Geometry and measurement series.
