The combination of photos and simple text make it an easy and fun read. It's great for the earliest elementary grades. The clear explanations and labels on the pictures do a nice job of getting across the concept of fractions to the K-2 children. Dividing apples into halves, thirds & quarters is makes it clear that fractions are "parts of a whole." The apple muffins demonstrate how fractions also demonstrate how many of a total there are. Most of the words can be read by K-2.
Simple enough for a later K, early 1st grader to understand. It makes fractions more tangible an seems to be at a 1st grade reading level. The boy enjoyed reading it twice. Now he sees "fractions"; also helped him recognize quarter an half hours.
This is a brief and simple little book, about right for a 1st or 2nd grader, to teach the idea of fractions. It uses in its 31 pages, images of Apple Slices, cut into parts to teach fractions. It also uses the imagery of Muffins on a Plate, and it occurred to me that I had never thought of slicing Apples to teach Fractions as parts of a Whole of Something. I am looking forward to showing the book to my First Grade Student. Along with teaching Chess to Kids, this little book is a terrific asset for my homeschool curriculum...
