Secrets Come Home is a page turning mystery that really kept me guessing about who the killer really was. Just when I thought I had it figured out the author would provide another twist to the story! The ending really was great and something I didn't see coming. Fans of Amish fiction blended with a not so easy to solve murder mystery will enjoy this one. I loved the characters especially Ettie, although in the beginning I felt like I was missing something, and then realized she was in another series of books. The author did provide enough background information about her through that I was able to not only connect with her, I also felt like I learned a bit about her past. I do want to go back and read the other series that she was in because I enjoyed her character so much. Samantha Price has hit a home run with Secrets Come Home and she has gained a new fan here.
I usually don't read lot of mystery novels. However I do enjoy Amish stories. This one kept me interested very fast.As in other Amish stories they have problems and secrets in family life. Not all sins get confessed before the congregations. I was impressed with the courage to pursue the truth even when threatened by police for interfering. Also right up to the last paragraph is reference to the bible.
I lived for many years near Holmes County Ohio Amish so l enjoy reading aboutThe Amish. I can picture so many things about them,their houses, the meetings,The buggies,etc. The mystery in this book was full of lots of interesting turns.I'm looking forward to reading more of Ettie!
A Little Disappointed. Although I love the Ettie character and the plots of these books are interesting I have been a little disappointed in this series. The main character, Ettie, is a carry over from the Amish Widows series which I loved. However, the author does not link the two series very well. in the last book of the Amish Widows series Ettie's long estranged daughter and the detective were beginning a relationship at the end of the book. In this new Ettie series nothing at all was said about her daughter or what happened to that relationship with the detective who had been a long time friend of Ettie's. In the new series we are told that the detective had retired but no elaboration on all the widows who had taken part in the prior series or on Ettie's daughter. I know this is a new series and a new beginning for the author but just a few sentences wrapping up the other story lines would have been nice. It was a little disconcerting and seemed to take away for the continuity of Ettie's story.
When I grabbed a free copy of Secrets Come Home, I wasn't aware that it was an Amish mystery. Okay, yes, I read the description. There was a dead Amish guy under the house the main character inherited. But I didn't pick up on the fact that the majority of characters - including the main one - were Amish as well. I know... not a big deal. But I generally don't read books about Amish characters. I just don't get the fascination. However, this book was well-written. The mystery was well-plotted. And the characters were likeable. Hence the four stars.
Samantha Price is a good author and writes in a very clear style. Her plot and characters are very real to life. I feel like I almost have known them. Conversations are believable. You don't usually think of these things happening in Amish circles, but I suppose they can -- Amish are just people. I don't usually read mysteries, but I liked this one.
This is a true amish setting book with suspense and crime! I thoroughly enjoyed the book! A real page turner and would rates 10 if I could. I am anxious to read more of Samantha Price books!Mary JaneBasham
