I homeschool and felt that some of my kids needed to review these concepts. They are working on higher math (alg. etc.) but were spending to much time remembering what to do when a mixed fraction entered the problem. I purchased this with the idea that they could do a page out of it as a review once a week or so until it was second nature. The book is good there is a wide variety of problems and many many of them. I don't know that we'll get through them all. The answers are in the back which is great. The reason I gave 4 stars- the problems are not worked out in the back. So if someone misses a problem I have to go through it and figure out what they did.
My son found fraction a little hard to learn, so I bought him this wonderful workbook. This workbook is designed to help children develop proficiency in their arithmetic with fractions by offering ample practice. We like the format of this book. It is conveniently divided up into four parts - one for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. In this way, my son can focus on one arithmetic operation at a time. My son is glad that a multiplication table is provided because he is not yet fluent with his multiplication facts. A preliminary section on basic fraction skills begins with a concise set of instructions, along with a few examples. Answers to exercises are also tabulated at the back of the book. This helps my son develop confidence and ensures that he practices correct techniques, rather than practice making mistakes. My son's math sense is improved significantly since I used this invaluable book. When he takes the online Beestar weekly tests, he often ranks high among his peers. I give credits to this book.
Problems inside book are not set up properly. Fractions are not printed with numerator *over* denominator, like on the cover of the book, but side by side, as in 2/3, which means problems need to be rewritten. This does not help with fluency! Extremely disappointed. Print too small, not enough room to work problems. I will not be using this.
This book is just page after page of worksheets of operations with decimal numbers, which appear to be generated by computer. As such, some of the problems are worthless. Not what I expected and not particularly useful in my 6th grade math classroom.
The workbooks in this series are as advertised. They have math problems from the start to finish with all the anwsers in the back.
This is a good book to brush up on fractions and it doesn't cost to much money. Good luck to you!
