The Poudre Canyon Saga – Book 3 Carpetbagger Justin Hornsworth had grown to wealth exploiting the spoils of the post-civil war South. He had also grown over-confident and arrogant in his criminal successes. Following the scent of gold and silver, he made his way west fully self-assured of his attaining further wealth. Getting off the stage in Fort Collins, Hornsworth learns of the Pelletier family who owns the most valuable piece of property on the Cache la Poudre River. Setting his sights on stealing the property, he calls in his Atlanta partner and a gang of cutthroats to help him run the Pelletiers off. A disastrous move on his part, Hornsworth vows revenge against the Pelletiers and kidnaps women of the family with intentions to sell them to a white slaver on a Mississippi riverboat bound for New Orleans. Across the plains of Colorado and Kansas, the Pelletier men pursue them. If they fail the women will be lost forever. As Jean put it, ‘This dirty business can have only one end, our women home safe and unharmed, and my bullet in Justin Hornsworth’s black heart’. Note: Formerly titled The Men from Poudre Canyon, published by Bottom of the Hill Publishing. The rewritten and enhanced novel is now published by Double Diamond Books under the title Only One End.

If you have read anything about the carpetbaggers who blanketed the south after the Civil War you know they were a nasty breed & both feared & hated. Justin Hornsworth can count himself among the worst. After swindling & in some instances killing around his home state of Georgia, he is now looking to grab the land on the Cache la Poudre River. Along with his partner Raymond Brown, land was their specialty. They steal or buy as cheap as possible & then sell off to other carpetbaggers at a huge profit. Hornsworth had long ago decided when Brown had extinguished his usefulness he would eliminate him but for now he needs him. Hornsworth's only weakness was his temper & he had learned to carefully control that. He has several tricks up his sleeve & he's confident one of them will work nicely. The Poude River land would be his to sell for a tidy little profit & then he can be back in Atlanta in short order. The Pelletier's own the land but Hornsworth considers them just simple "country bumpkins" that can easily be eliminated. In following this series the reader knows the insurmountable task Hornsworth has ahead of him. This is the very best series I have ever read & if you enjoy American history & an excellent story this is the one for you. It's cleanly written & fast moving. Dave has created characters that you soon feel are family & you can't wait to see what will happen next. I cannot say which of these first three books I liked the best...they were equally exceptionally...the best. I highly recommend this group of books but it's really best if you start with the first one because it lays the foundation for the following stories.

I would like to recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a very interesting and exciting book where the action never stops. I am finding these books to be very difficult to put down. I will be looking forward to reading the next book from this author.

Bad. Enough. To. Shoot. Up. A house. And trying. To. Steal. Horses. But then. To. Steal. Women. And young. Girls. Wow. And they. We're. So. Lucky to. Be invited. To. A. Cook. Out.
