When one starts reading this volume, all seems normal in that the reader is seemingly stepping into a series of historically interesting yet episodic exploits of our father and son assassin team, however, all is not as it seems, and the road to hell takes a major turn. Writer, Kazuo Koike, shifts the stories focus from the episodic to the epic. He reveals more of main protagonist Ogami Itto's history, finally shows a very important moment from his past that has been talked about in previous volumes, adds mystery and intrigue by revealing more of the history and machinations of the Yagyu Clan, sets artist, Goseki Kojima, free to present one of the longest and most monumental samurai battles ever put down in manga and leaves me waiting for more with an actual cliffhanger of an ending. To reveal more would be a sin.
Great format for this series. I know the original was planned out to have each volume as a standalone work of art, but I generally bring these into work to read, so having one big volume as opposed to three smaller ones is a plus for me.
This omnibus collects several volumes of this series in an enlarged format. The Lone Wolf and Cub series continues to enthrall with its epic samurai tale.
