In the night skies above Paris, an adorable young owl teaches her older brother about the power of imagination—and the unconditional love between siblings Hoot the owl is very excited for his little sister, Peep, to join him on the cathedral rooftops. She's finally old enough to learn all his big brother owly wisdom: First, owls say hooo. Second, they always say hooo. Lastly, they ONLY say hooo! But why would Peep say hooo when she could say schweeepty peep or dingity dong? Why would she speak when she could sing? As she explores the breathtaking Parisian cityscape, Peep discovers so many inspiring sights and sounds—the ring of cathedral bells, the slap of waves on stone—that she can’t help but be swept up in the magic of it all. Hoot doesn’t understand Peep’s awe, until he takes a pause to listen . . . and realizes that you're never too old to learn a little something new. From the beloved author/illustrator of the classic picture book Red Sled, this gorgeous read aloud celebrates the wonder found in little things—and in the hearts of dreamers, young and old.

I purchase so many books, that I rarely review them, because it would take up too much time. However, the reaction my preschool students had to this one just begged for a review. It is a simple story, with a sibling theme that resonated to many of the children. In a multi-age classroom, it appealed to those without siblings as well. The children loved the sounds of Peeps "words," accompanied with the voice I chose for her and requested to hear the story over and over, until they could recite it from memory. They had only two bits of constructive criticism, which they put in the form of questions. 1. Why does Hoot say "Hoo" and not "Hoot?" and 2. Why does Hoot learn to sing Peeps words, but Peep never learns to say his word?

I saw this book while at a local library with my 3 year old granddaughter and was captivated by the enticing cover! The illustrations are adorable and the plot is heart warming and educational, particularly since my granddaughter has an older sibling. The three of us have reread this book several times already. We have made owl paper bag puppets and put on plays, recreating the story. We all love this book!

A sweet story with adorable illustrations. Hoot is excited to teach his young sister the ropes of being an Owl. For example, Owls don't make any other noises except for Hooo! Something Peep doesn't understand. She doesn't want to just say Hooo. She wants to make sounds like the magical world around them makes.Readers will enjoy learning the sites and sounds of Paris at night time, as young Peep flies through the night learning and discovering all the sounds the city offers. Peep teaches her older brother that sometimes it's okay to do things differently. She also teaches him that magic can be found if only we take a moment and listen to all that's going on around us.This is a great story about listening, unconditional love, and realizing it's okay to do things differently than others. With it's sweet story and adorable illustrations, readers will fall in love with Hoot and Peep! This book makes the perfect bed time story!

Hoot is the wise old brother owl who wants to teach his young sister, Peep, how to hoot like an owl. But Peep has other ideas. They live in Paris, and Peep loves to explore the wonders of Paris and make lots of interesting noises about what she sees and how she feels. Peep is irrepressible. She makes crazy sounds like dingity dong, slippity slap, and schweepity.Peep's sounds drive Hoot nuts. He can't take it anymore. He flies away. Peep tells a gargoyle that Hoot doesn't understand the wonder and mystery of things. Hoot finds he misses Peep's songs. He misses being the wise older brother, but maybe he can learn something from Peep, too. Peep likes to sing to the ancient wind. One day the wind carries Peeps silly songs to Hoot. Will Hoot return? What do you think? The skyscapes of Paris in this book are quite wonderful to look at. This is a fun book about siblings.

The best story about an owl I have read in my short 2 years reading to a toddler. We laughed, we cried, hooted and did all the other funny sounds that come out of this book. This breaks the mold about what is expected from owls. Quite frankly I think society puts too much pressure on owls to conform. Hoot and Peep defy those standards and show the world that there is more to an owl than just a hoot.

The sweet story, the beautiful illustrations, and the gently-told lesson of Hoot and Peep all add up to a perfect tale. It is the story of a big brother owl who wants to teach his little sister owl all his owly wisdom -- which consists of saying Hooo to everything. Little sister, however, wants to say Schweepty peep! Who's the one who needs to learn a little wisdom and owly ways here? The beautiful, pleasing, joyful illustrations of the night enhance the author's word. Sweet and beautiful.

I read this story to my son and even before we started reading I was struck by the gorgeous illustrations. Based in Paris, the story of two siblings learning from each other is explored in the book. My 4 year old and I enjoyed how the brother sister flew around working out their differences with their mouse friends providing support.

I found this to be a cute book. I think the illustrations are done beautifully. The story is a nice one. It is easy to read and understand. I was very pleased to have won this book in a recent blog giveaway. It will make a lovely gift for my 4 grand children.
