Kai the poisoner worms his way into the story, in a delightful twist that adds a final new dimension to the story. Itto Ogami is too honorable to expose the Yagyu letter (after going to such lengths to get it). But the readers want to know what it contains, so enter Kai the official food taster of the Shogun. An ordinary man with matchless ambition, Kai has no Bushido code guiding him, just a lust for power (among other things). In this way we get to see how the Yagyu assassins control a nation, while Itto and Retsudo get to keep their feud honorable and personal. Seeing this story in the new larger Omnibus format is a real treat, the ugly Abe-no-kaii has never looked better! The lush artwork of the series really shines through in this volume, finally we can see Long Wolf and Cub as it was meant to be enjoyed.
