I know some people may be offended by Mike Berenstain's inclusion of his Christian faith now in the Berenstain Bears books, but I am more than delighted and thrilled. I read most of their books as a child and used them to help me learn how to handle situations with a positive character. Now as a mother, I have found the new living lights series as a wonderful Christian tool to use with my daughter alongside the Bible. The books create scenarios and situations that children often find themselves in and then include the Bible to show children how to deal with it in God's way.Our children need all the help they can get. If parents are offended that Mike has started this series, he continues to publish the Early Readers and if you have really studied their series, you will notice that most of the Living Lights books also have a "secular" alternative so parents can still have the same story without the use of God. However, for me and my daughter, the christian living lights series is a breath of fresh air and I thank the Berenstains for standing in the gap for our children, but as always, parents must decide what is best for their own children. There are not enough really good christian books out there for young children that are too old for Veggie Tales. I just ask that Mike Berenstain keeps these coming!
This book is not only good for children to learn about forgiveness, but also for adults to remember that something that seems like a big deal in the moment, may not actually be a big deal in the larger scheme of things. It is one of the more enjoyable books in the Berenstain Bears series, in my opinion. The book not only provides an opportunity for children to learn about forgiving others, it also provides a good opportunity for children to put themselves in the place of the person who is being forgiven. An excellent book to read with children and discuss the importance of forgiveness with them.
This book is great because it is Brother's birthday, they got candy and he forgave Fred. - by Logan age 6
My Grandbunny is four and this is a perfect book for her. When I read it alone the first time, I thought it might be too long for her very short attention span and that she might not quite grasp it all. I had bought an Arch Book and thought she would have had an easier time with it. The reverse was true. The arch book was harder. In this book, the "moral of the story" is placed at the end of the book and I do find that right near the end, I lose her interest some. But overall she really likes the Bears and the pictures. I've just decided to kind of find a way to shorten it some so she actually reaches the lesson and the whole point of it. What I really like about this book is that it gives questions and a really awesome idea for an activity. I absolutely intend to build a great big paper tree out of construction paper and put it in the hallway with all the family pictures and let her put the leaf with the people she wants/needs to forgive.
The authors write an entertaining story and build some character issues into it. It serves as a good 'jumping off' point for furtherdiscussion. Several of the books in this series have that motive in mind….and it works. My grandson's teacher loves it whenhe brings one of these books to his preschool to share…. it makes a great lesson for the day.
I think what's great about this book is in this book someone did something by accident and later on the other person forgave the other person who did the accident.I like this story because a little boy had a birthday party and then an accident happened and later on in this story the little boy went someplace alone and got calm and later on the two boys forgave each other.I think you should read this book because I think it is a nice book and two people forgave each other. YOU CAN LEARN FROM THIS BOOK.I am 7 years old and I am almost 8 years old and I made this review now I think you should read this book and later you can also do a review.4/9/2015 Bye Bye
My 2 year old LOVED this book. We've worked on saying, "I'm sorry" but I love that this book went one stop further and having the other person say, "I forgive you." It was a great way to teach her that concept, and she has asked to read it multiple times with me.
My daughter loves this book!! She has me read a different BB book every night! Its cute because they have been around since I was little. They are a cartoon that my child can watch and I know she is learning a valuable lesson.
