It was a interesting read in fairy tales. It brought in a Doctor Who twist with each one. For example the Doctor is the Fairy Godmother in the Cinderella story. I like that it is a good and sturdy hardcover book to be on display with my other books on my bookshelf. Just be aware when the seller says its 60 pages in the description that it is actually 261 pages with 15 stories.
Fans of the Doctor Who Universe will love this. It doesn't always feature the Doctor does it feature people and creatures from that universe. I especially love trying to figure out what the original story is; it's not just fairy tales, there are stories in there other than Grimm's. I do not regret getting this.
I was given this book as a gift. It was great fun to read through the stories and think aha! I recognize this fairy tale. The author did a good job moving this out of Earth-centric to cosmological. Being a Whovian, it was quite delightful to see how the writer subtly worked in The Doctor when he appeared. His monsters were true to the way they were portrayed in the long running series. I will read this again. Glad it was given to me!
This is a fun read for any age! These are tales any human will recognize, with a Time Lord twist. You don't need to be a dedicated Whovian to enjoy these stories, but it does add another element of glee. Books like these can get heavy-handed with fandom references, but this one blends fandom into fairytale with ease. I'm glad I bought this book!
I've loved reading this book with the twist on classic fairy tales. There's everything from Beauty and the Beast to Jack and the Bean Stalk. Each story comes with an illustration at the start and also in the middle of the tale. It's beautiful. Several companions make appearances along with several Doctors. A must have for any Whovian, young or old!
I never write reviews unless there is something someone needs to know about a product or service before they buy it. Usually, than means something really bad or missing that shouldn't be... this is the RARE exception. Time Lord Fairytales is quite possibly the best Doctor Who book I have ever read! It stand on equal par with the series for enjoyability, and even without knowing the Doctor Who universe, one would be hard pressed not to love this book. The writing is exceptional, the stories are really interesting, and there isn't a bad one in the bunch! If you know the Doctor Who universe, then you can kind of figure out where a story may be going by the characters within it, but it is so well written and enjoyable that the story still carries you along like the best of the Doctor Who episodes on BBC. I really can't recommend this book highly enough! For anyone out there who wants to write a fairy-tale pastiche, this is how you do it. Simply BRILLIANT!!!
Gallifrey meets Grimm. This is amazing. 15 storyies, 260+ pages. The cover has gold etched gears and beautiful artwork on both sides. Not exactly bedtime stories for the kids though. A little spooky, perfect for young adults and older.
Good concept. Much enjoyed by the younger members of my household, but I am beginning to find the standard of writing in these recent Doctor Who stories a long way below the glory days of the New Adventures and the Missing Adventures tales of the 90s. Where are the Paul Cornells and the Ben Aaronvitchs of this series?
