Comic Book Review (8/10) “Great”All-Star Batman #2 “My Own Worst Enemy Part 2/ The Cursed Wheel Part 2”Writer: Scotty SnyderArtists: John Romita Jr./ Declan ShalveyPlot: Batman and Two-Face are on the run as more killers and villains that want Two-Face’s reward are coming to save him. Batman is pushed to the limit as Killer Croc, Cheshire, Copperhead, and other hired mercenaries confront Batman to collect their prize. Meanwhile, Penguin, The Black Mask, and Great White elicit the services of the KGBeast to bring down Batman.Duke and Batman are on the heels of Victor Zsasz, who is alleged to have murdered four individuals. Snyder also delves into Duke’s past and his relationship with his mother.Snyder once again peels the layers off of his stories very slowly, and I have to say that I enjoyed this issue more than issue #1. He still deliberately keeps the mystery of Batman’s plan and the circumstances surrounding that plan in the first story, and keeps the mystery regarding Duke’s background while keeping us crumbs to keep us interested. It is a very compelling tale, even if it does move very slowly, but the action that drives the story kept me invested throughout the whole issue. What was most intriguing about this issue was the mystery of why Commissioner Gordon was assaulting Bruce’s home. Batman also shows some cool gadgets – remember that metal boomerang thing that was strapped to Batman’s back in the first issue? Its functions are revealed in this issue, and it is much more than a simple boomerang. Also he does a cool trick with his ears when he is assaulted by Killer Croc, King Shark, and Amygdala that I don’t think Batman’s has ever done before in a previous comic. In this story, even Batman’s cowl is a weapon against crime.
