This easy-breezy compendium of trivia and useful facts about the world has totally intrigued my young teens and preteens. Whether you need to know the population of Senegal, a brief history of ancient Asia, Justin Beiber's birthday, or all the NASCAR champions since 1985, this book will fill you in. Every page is loaded with pictures in a magazine-style format, drawing kids in quickly and enticing them to turn the pages to learn more, and more, and more. I'm thinking about purchasing more copies as Christmas gifts -- judging by my kids' interest, they'd be a hit with some of my nieces and nephews.
My five-year-old is at a point in his life where he is craving to learn. During the Olympics, I showed him my World Almanac so we could look at the flags. He also enjoyed looking at the maps and presidents. So, for Christmas, I bought him this book. It gives kids more than enough facts and contains plenty of colored pictures to keep them interested. His book is fairly beat up already from the use. Now that he is in kindergarten, he now has a reference guide if he wants to learn more. For example, they learned about the planets and when he came home that day, he looked them up in the almanac to reinforce what he learned, as well as learn a little more. Now, even I know that Jupiter has 67 moons! This is a great supplemental tool, totally worth the price.
Love it, quick, fast facts for kids that won't bore them. A fun way to learn and very interesting for kids.
You're kids will get more from this than exchanging texts, messages on FB, or watching Nick. But you may get irritated with the constant "Dad, did you know......" after you hear it 500 times. Still I'd much rather have my kids reciting facts to me than celebrity Teen gossip.
I love all of these books! My 6 and 10 year old boys enjoy reading the fun facts and researching more information on the topics/facts that they find REALLY interesting!! I would recommend to parents with children that don't yet LOVE to read. This will get them really interested in learning more and reading more!
My son loves to read facts and information -- anything from a singer, movie/TV star, to a sports athlete, to the tallest building in the world. If you have a child like this, they will love this book. I found the book extremely interesting for me! It has colorful pages full of facts and information. Highly recommend.
Our three sets of grandchildren have some "history" buffs and so this was something educational but fun reading for those and something that some day they can look back and say, "Remember when!"
As a school librarian, I do an activity every year with my students using the World Almanac for Kids. The third through fifth grade students love it! I purchased one of these for my niece and for my grandson for Christmas. These books offer hours of fascinating information while teaching basic research skills. This is a great book for those who are not fond of reading, as the information is too fascinating for them to resist. It also presents information in a variety of formats including paragraphs, lists, charts and tables which also sharpens skills. Great for all ages.
