I am a sub. teacher at an Elementary School I carry this book in my bag of tricks. The children LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT! Great poems and wonderful illustrations. You must buy this book for your child's liabary. A great gift for a birthday party too. Jack Prelutsky has inspired me deeply.
I purchased this book for a friend's child several years ago, and it has always been one of her favorites. I was excited to get a copy for my own child! My baby is only 3.5 months old, but I read this book to her aloud frequently. Studies show that the more words children hear, the smarter they are (and no, tv and radio don't count), so reading is paramount for developing your child's brain. Prelutsky has a masterful command of the English language, and many of the poems have clever word play and double entendres. The illustrations (which I presume are what is keeping my baby interested at this stage), are lush and colorful and layered with incredible detail. This book is a must for any child's library.
I loved this book. I had it share with me by another teacher and had to have a copy of my own. A great new way to do poetry and to get the students interested in it. The CD is really fun to share wioth the kids.
We love Mr. Prelutsky's poems. I am giving 3 stars because these poems are more about scary and gross things. I had thought that they would be funny or humorous poems. I did take a look inside this book before buying. But the poems I got to see were not that way. My child read only very few poems and then told me that she wants 'normal' Jack Prelutsky poems!
This is a wonderful collection of many of Jack Prelutsky's best poems. He is one of the favorites of myself as well as my second grade students. He has also been an inspiration to me, who is also a newly published author. He will delight people of all ages with his humor and wit and thought provoking poetry.
We checked this book out from the Library so many times and hated giving it back that I just had to buy it for my kids for Christmas. They all love it. From my 3 year old all the way up to my 10 year old.
I ordered this e-book for my kindle fire. The font is too small to read and for some reason this book has a particular setting that it prevents kindle fire from enlarging the font. I have to return the book.
we spend a lot of time reading and the poems are very funny.. my daughter is too young to understand all of it right now (she's only 15 months)but I am absolutely sure she'll enjoy reading this book..well at least daddy and mommy enjoys reading it!
