This is a long awaited book about the McCabes. Tom McCabe is a Preacher in a little community called Jubilee, when trouble breaks out in the Second Chance Saloon. The story starts out slowly, and before you know it you are involved in the shooting in the Saloon. Great book!
I was not sure that this spin-off book could be as good as the main series but I was very pleased. Of course many of the characters from the main series were active (or at least mentioned) in this one and the story line tied right in. There were some of the old villains as well as some new villains and good old John McCabe takes out another one! Well worth the read.
Preacher with a gun is another hit by Brad. While reading this story I kept wondering, what is the Preacher going to do. Excellent story of a man torn between two factions and a realization of where is real world is.One down side of this book, inherent in all of Brads writing, is the anguish they put me through. An example is "Preacher with a Gun",I had to set aside everything else when reading because I could not put it down. A read page turner.
The storyline in this book was excellent. It was nice to read about another McCabe. If you are to read this book you will need to read the 5 book McCabe series to familiarize yourself with all the characters first. You will not be disappointed. I cannot wait for the next book in the Preacher With A Gun (Jubilee series #2).
I should state I have purchased and read all of the McCabe novels in order and enjoyed them. This novel is lacking in plot and character development. The protagonist, Tom McCabe while much like Glen Ford's character in Heaven with a Gun, does not come across as either a minister or a gunfighter. Tom's character did not hold my interest and It was difficult to finish this novel to find his fate. While we have become used to repetition in Mr. Dennison's novels this is worse than his other novels where the plot and the characters outways the repetitiveness. Frankly if there are additional novels in this series I would be hard pressed to read them. Hopefully Mr. Dennison will continue the McCabe series.
This is a masterfully-woven story about a small town in Montana in the 1800's. This story is told around the establishment of a boom town and it's many different residents, many of whom are seeking a 2nd chance or a new life. It includes love stories, friendship, gun-fighting, and courtroom drama. Highly anticipating Mr Dennison's next book.
There are many who have strong opinions on this, that and the other. As for me there are basic principles for right and wrong. Big picture. It is always about the big picture but the big picture is made up of hundreds of smaller pieces. Never undervalued the individual.
Having read all of the McCabe series I was a little disappointed with Jubilee. It seems Brad is running thin on plot and development as there was way too much repetition of descriptions and background especially for a book as short as Jubilee.
