This book is a feast both for children who devour books and for those children who like to read in small bites. The book synthesizes information on myriad topics in a way that is fun and accessible whether you read it cover to cover or peruse it at bedtime. My daughter enjoyed it so much we bought a copy for her fifth-grade class -- and there is regularly a crowd of curious kids sharing it at recess! And it is not just for kids, as her teacher loves it, too! It is a great tool to develop a child's natural love of learning and reading.
This is a great bathroom book, because you can read a list here or there, and then pick it up again later. Lots of fun, interesting factoids. Found one error though...on page 219 is a list of Cartoon Families, and it lists the Jetson Family as "George, Wilma, Judy and Elroy." but EVERYONE knows (well, everyone over 35!) that George's wife is JANE Jetson, as in "Jane, his wife," from the them song. And, of course, don't forget Astro, their dog. Unless Fred and Wilma, and George and Jane both got divorces, and then Wilma married George and I never heard about it? Naaaaah. Cute book.
This book has bunch of wrong info about India, Indian culture, language etc.I felt ashamed to explain this to my child.
I was looking for a used copy of this book that was in good used condition. The seller claimed the book was in "very good used condition", however that was not the case at all! When I received the book it was barley in one piece, it had all been scraped up, the pages inside the book had writing all over them! I'm very disappointed! The fact that scholastic no longer prints this book or newer versions of it is the only reason I have not returned the book. I guess I'd still rather have a book that is falling apart than not have it all- as this was one of my favorite childhood books.
It seems that this book was designed to misinform its reader on a broad spectrum of subjects. Don't let your children read this book! Worse than being uninformed, if they rely on this book, they will fill their heads with false information.Scholastic publications evidently doesn't bother to do the most rudimentary fact-checking before putting its products on the market. It's shocking that they hire the same authors for edition after edition of this work.Don't trust Scholastic!
Error in the Presidential listing area.JFK was listed as the 43rd. Pres.We know that is incorrect !!!He was the 35th. In another section they have it correct.
